Alexander Hawkins Ensemble
Born in Oxford in 1981, pianist Alexander Hawkins leads his own 6-piece Ensemble, featuring Orphy Robinson, Otto Fischer, Hannah Marshall, Dominic Lash, and Javier Carmona. He also co-leads the transatlantic Convergence Quartet, featuring Dominic Lash, Hawkins, American Taylor Ho Bynum and Canadian Harris Eisenstadt, and, as a Hammond organist, forms one third of the group ‘Decoy’. Other contexts for Hawkins include the cooperative group Barkingside; Ntshuks Bonga’s Qwati (alongside Claude Deppa, Gail Brand, Greg Bonnie, Oren Marshall, and Mark Sanders); Evan Parker’s trio and quartet, and the ensembles of South African drummer Louis Moholo-Moholo, and Ethiopian jazz/funk artist Mulatu Astatke.
"A mostly exuberantly idiosyncratic set that's far too good to pass over"
