From the Jazz at Boaters website

Here are details of the artists that are playing at Boaters during August 2019. We also run a mailing list where you can be the one of the first to find out details of who’s playing in the coming months. Please note that the music starts at around 8:00pm.

Sunday 4th August
Tim Whitehead
One of the major voices in British jazz, both as a saxophonist and a composer, Tim has appeared in such groups as “Looses Tubes” and Ian Carr’s “Nucleus”, as well as leading several different projects under his own name. His style can encompass everything from mainstream jazz, to soulful funk, encompassing classic jazz and contemporary standards as well as some fine original compositions. Tonight, he is joined by Simon Carter on piano, bassist Laurence Cottle and drummer Nic France.

Sunday 11th August
Graham Dee
Graham has become a firm favourite at Boaters, with his rich, soulful voice and captivating performances. He is considered to be one of the country’s finest singers, and is also a member of the Climax Blues Band, with whom he has toured throughout the UK and Europe. He is a very well respected vocal coach, a role that has led him to work with many of the X Factor finalists, and has also taught at many of the UK’s premier pop music colleges. Don’t miss this special opportunity to see Graham perform with Simon Carter on piano, Phil Mulford on bass and drummer Jack Pollitt.

Sunday 18th August
Allison Neale Quartet
American born alto saxophonist Allison’s beautifully crafted lines evoke the spirit of Paul Desmond and Art Pepper, with whom she has a particular affinity. She is a strong advocate of the melodic West Coast style and is joined tonight by a regular collaborator, guitarist Colin Oxley, who together, have often recreated the magical pairing of Paul Desmond and Jim Hall. Drawing from these influences, they explore their own unique musical partnership, while staying true to the nature of the original recordings. Allison and Colin are joined by Adam King on double bass and drummer Matt Home.

Sunday 25th August
Simon Spillett Quartet
This is hard swing and bebop at its very best. Simon has won several awards for his music, including the ‘Rising Star’ category of the BBC Jazz Awards in 2007 and the tenor saxophone category of the British Jazz Awards in 2011. Simon is considered to be the UK’s foremost expert on Tubby Hayes, which is reflected in his playing, and only emphasised further by the critically acclaimed biography of Tubby that he has written. He is one of the most energetic and dynamic tenor saxophonists in Britain, whose performances have led to rave reviews at jazz clubs across the country and tonight he is joined by Robin Aspland on piano, Arnie Somogyi on double bass and drummer Spike Wells.
