Tuesday, September 02, 2008
The Edge Arts Centre at Much Wenlock in Shropshire has announced an exciting programme for the 2008/9 season. Dates confirmed are as follows;
THURSDAY 23rd OCTOBER 2008
BOBO STENSON TRIO
Following last year’s brilliant performance by the Tord Gustavsen Trio The Edge welcomes another Scandinavian trio associated with the ECM label.
Swedish pianist Stenson has a distinguished history with ECM ,leading his own groups as well as appearing on recordings by Jan Garbarek, Charles Lloyd and Tomasz Stanko.
He will be joined by master bassist Anders Jormin and exciting young drummer Jon Falt.
SATURDAY 6th DECEMBER 2008
THE LIGHTHOUSE TRIO
Saxophonist Tim Garland leads this exciting trio, an offshoot of his Lighthouse Project. In addition to leading his own groups Garland is well known as a member of Acoustic Triangle and he has also worked with Chick Corea.
Garland will be joined by rising star Gwilym Simcock on piano, a face already familiar to Edge audiences after leading his own trio at the venue last year.
Dynamic drummer and percussionist Asaf Sirkis completes the line up with an exotic custom made kit.
FRIDAY 20th FEBRUARY 2009
FINN PETERS QUINTET
Saxophonist and flautist Peters is a member of London’s influential F-ire Collective. His albums “Su Ling” and “Butterflies” have both received widespread critical acclaim.
The full line up is still to be confirmed but is likely to include fellow F-ire Collective members.
Expect exciting contemporary jazz with electronic and world music influences.
THURSDAY 26th FEBRUARY 2009
IVO NEAME QUARTET
Neame is a multi instrumentalist (he also plays alto sax) but will be appearing here on piano leading his own quartet. He was at the Edge a couple of years ago with singer Brigitte Beraha.
A member of London’s Loop Collective, Neame released a piano trio album “Swirls And Eddies” in
2007.
He will be joined by the album’s bass player Phil Donkin (previously seen at The Edge with Gwilym Simcock) and by dazzling young vibes player Jim Hart another Loop Collective member and multi-instrumentalist plus drums to be announced.
SATURDAY APRIL 25th 2009
LIANE CARROLL
A solo performance from the award winning pianist and vocalist. Carroll is an exciting and extrovert stage performer.
The Jazzmann hopes to report on all these performances.
Congratulations to Alison Vermee and her team for putting such an exciting and enterprising programme together.

Damn fine effort Jazz Mann, a credit to your regiment, what what. In the 50’s I served with a fellow in Egypt who liked a bit of jazz, a bit of a beatnik by all accounts, made a mean cup of earl gray though. Caught a dose off a hairy woman if I remember. Never the same again, what what. Jolly chap, he used to drive the gypoes loopy with his constant finger clicking to the swing. Is that you by any chance? Do you remember Nig, Winston and Darkie? Still see them down the Legion from time to time.
Must toodle on, bridge night to arrange

Luxembourg Comes To London
Jazz musicians from Luxembourg will be playing a series of concerts in London during the autumn of 2010. Ian Mann takes a look at the bands involved and listens to their latest albums.
Saturday at Brecon Jazz Festival, 07/08/2010
I saw a wide variety of music today encompassing a broad spectrum from blues to neo- classical and all manner of jazz reference points in between.

I’d like to have a jazz band tour the European continent. They are a magnificent band and they have played for over twenty years all over the United States. I was hoping someone could help me in providing the proper procedures in registering with the European embassies if that’s what I need to do—I’ve heard that that’s what I do need to do.
Is there a website or somewhere I could obtain such information re: setting up and/or scheduling a jazz band for several shows?
Thank you.
