The Vortex Jazz Club, Dalston, London - programme for the week ahead.

Friday, February 07, 2020

Come on a musical journey where past meets present and East meets West. Plus a Swedish vocalist whose compositions are always poetic and alluring.

Welcome to the Vortex Jazz Club
7 - 14 Feb 2020

Friday night we invite you to come on a musical journey with the Talinka Quartet which features vocalist and lyricist Tali Atzmon. The band’s album launch Rainbow Over Kolonaki brings together a strong line up which also includes Gilad Atzmon and Yaron Stavi who are joined by Jenny Bliss for this evening’s trip into the intimate ‘journeys of life’ . Saturday award-winning vocalist and composer Emilia Martensson brings her latest project Loredana Tour to the club. Always nuanced with a complete palette of sounds that are both celebratory and touched with a hint of sadness.

This week’s jazz on a Sunday afternoon is our resident London Jazz Orchestra which is alway a joy to catch because of the number of London’s finests who perform in it. In the evening the stage will be occupied by former Loose Tubes founding member Chris Batchelor, and his latest creative adventure - Zoetic -  with a line up that includes Paul Clarvis, John Paricelli, Steve Watts. and Margrit Hasler.

Freedom - the Art of Improvisation is back on Monday, the Daisy George Trio on Tuesday, an album launch by Mezcla - a hot world jazz fusion ensemble - on Ubuntu Records.

A Triple bill coming up on Thursday with Resolute, J-Frisco + Arthur O’hara Trio: That is three for the price of one! Friday is the Feast of Saint Valentine and we have the young talented, award-winning vocalist Luca Manning for you to feast on.

Look out for Henry Lowther’s Still Waters 21 February.  Henry should be made a national treasure…he’s the only person I’ve met who played at Woodstock!  Another week to look forward to. Hope to see you at the club!
