Gig News
8 - 14 SEPTEMBER 2017

Dear Friends and Supporters,

To be honest we’ve got a badass progrmme for the weekend and the coming week… The weekend starts with the only surviving member of South African Jazz heroes - The Blue Notes - the one and only… drummer, Louis Moholo-Moholo. He’s accompanied by his band Four Blokes - Jason Yarde, Alexander Hawkins and John Edwards for two nights. Expect to be blown away by Moholo’s rolling rhythms and the magnificence of the performances by the other musicians. Friday & Saturday. Sunday afternoon the London Jazz Orchestra opens its new season at the Vortex. Welcome back LJO! Sunday evening we have another fantastic line up with Keith and Julie Tippett with Theo May. KT has been at the forefront of contemporary European jazz and new music. The Blue Notes was an important source of inspiration for KT, which resulted in later collaborations with Louis Moholo-Moholo.

Recently added are: Swedish quartet Orjan Hulten Orion Tue 26 September (see video clip below); Belgian trio De Beren Giren Sun 8 October ; British virtuoso vocalist Cleveland Watkiss’s solo project with special guest Mon 6 November and Tim Berne’s Snake Oil is coming with the Mark Trounson Group featuring Bill McHenry for 2 nights Wed 8 and Thur 9 November.

Hope to see you at the club…and have a groovy weekend,
The Vortex Team.
