Dune Music’s very own Abram Wilson returns to the stage this Spring, but perhaps not as his many musically minded fans might expect…  Following from his wonderfully received turn in director Tarell McCraney’s highly acclaimed play In The Red And Brown Water in late 2008, Abram is again set to tread the boards in a new production of Shakespeare’s As You Like It, to be performed at Curve in Leicester.

Abram Wilson already enjoys a great reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting jazz musicians, being a formative member of the Tomorrow’s Warriors collective and a lynchpin of the Dune Music stable.  Downing his trumpet for this project, Abram will take on the roles of both Amiens and Jaques de Boys in a groundbreaking new rendition of this classic play.

The production is directed by Tim Supple, whose previous credits include his critically lauded 2006 adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream as well as holding the position of Artistic Director at the Young Vic theatre from 1993 to 2000.  This latest version of one of the Bard’s best loved comedies sees Abram Wilson joining a creative team that not only includes some of the country’s finest contemporary actors, such as Natalie Drew (playing Celia), Tracy Ifeachor (Rosalind) and David Ononokpono (Orlando), but also the compositional skills of Nitin Sawhney and Ashwin Srinivasan.  Sawheny’s award-winning achievements as a composer, arranger, musician, DJ and producer are well documented, while flautist Srinivasan is internationally renowned for both his solo work and his collaborations with large ensembles.  He and Sawhney have worked together several times in the past, but their partnership here extends the reach of both players into new areas.

Abram will be releasing a brand new album with his quartet later in 2009, but until then be sure catch him in this fantastic production, combining drama, comedy and music in one exhilarating package.
