We have received the following information regarding this event;

Dave Newton and his All-Star Quintet are performing at the Victory Club on Friday 14th November at 8pm.

Dave Newton is an old and valued friend of Cheltenham Jazz, who always enthrals us with his playing, and with his choice of bandmates. He was given a free hand to decide who would play in tonight’s band. I’m sure his choice will both surprise and delight us.

The Dave Newton Quintet features; Matt Hopkins on Guitar. Matt’s inventive and melodic guitar playing has been featured in groups as diverse as Andy Sheppard’s ‘Hotel Bristol’, and Emily Wright and the Royals.

Composer, producer and educator, the amazing Jules Jackson is on bass. Hailing from a family of musicians, and a graduate of London’s Guildhall school of music and Drama, Jackson’s influences include John Scofield, Scott Henderson and Mike Stern. An album with his band ‘Equal Measures’ is due for release in 2026.

Mark Whitlam is on drums. Mark’s versatility and creative flair have established him as one of the ‘first call’ players in the South West. Mark is a passionate and authentic performer who is also a composer and educator. He has worked with numerous jazz luminaries including Claire Teal, Andy Sheppard, Ian Ballamy, Pee Wee Ellis and Jim Mullen to name but a few.

Our SPECIAL GUEST is Bristol based trumpeter, composer and arranger, the very popular Gary Alesbrook who has worked with well-known artists such as The Scissors Sisters, Noel Gallagher and Rag N Bone man to name but a few.  Dave Newton describes him as a phenomenal trumpeter!
