Upcoming Highlights in March
Hello music lovers,
March is flying by, but we still have a ton of great shows for your listening pleasure!
UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS…
This Saturday we look forward to SAINTS AND SINNERS making their Green Note debut. Blues and gospel, despite their obvious differences, have always been linked, one developing on Saturday night the other on Sunday morning. Join us for a foot-stomping, gut-wrenching, heart-soaring journey from the cross to the crossroads!
Klezmer fans have a couple of great options this month- we have a handful of tickets left for Klezmer trio LOSHN tomorrow (Thurs 16th March) who bring together three of the UK’s leading Klezmer musicians, whose intimate arrangements speak, sing and dance with the tradition’s distinct Yiddish accent. And then BUENOS KLEZMER! are back (Sun 26th March) following their sold out show with us last year, to perform uplifting and heartwarming authentic Jewish folk music, featuring Vocalist Maya Levy who weaves a fascinating tale of these long-ago worlds, accompanied by her talented band.
If singer-songwriters are your thing you’re in for a treat this month! We have two triple bills each featuring 3 exceptional artists. HANK WANGFORD, the twisted Godfather of British Country music, Vagaband frontman, JOSE MCGILL, and one of the UKs finest dobro players, NOEL DASHWOOD share a bill next Wednesday (22nd March), and then the following week three talented songwriters share the stage, swapping songs and the stories and inspirations behind them…. DANNY GEORGE WILSON, MICHELE STODART and SARAH JANE SCOUTEN (Monday 27th March).
Other upcoming highlights include harmony driven Alternative-Americana three piece NORTON MONEY (Fri 31st March), Folk/Americana artist VERA VAN HEERINGEN who combines emotionally astute songwriting with firebrand instrumental virtuosity (Weds 22nd March), and Nashville’s STACY ANTONEL who makes clever, country-leaning Americana that feels both vintage and hyper-modern (Friday 24th March).
GREEN NOTE HITS THE ROAD
We have two shows this month as part of our ‘Green Note Hits The Road’ series. First up we look forward to the return of California’s MARTY O’REILLY (Tues 21st March @ The Lexington). Explaining Marty O’Reilly’s music is like describing a dream - it feels familiar, but at the same time unchartered. He goes from raw gospel blues to cinematic epics, from heavy driving grooves to delicately arranged folk songs. Highly recommended!
And then on Saturday 25th March get your party shoes on for Newcastle’s finest swing-honkytonk-rockabilly band - the fantabulous ROB HERON & THE TEAPAD ORCHESTRA! “Rob Heron evokes the spirit of Bob Wills and Django Reinhardt with a quintet that shuffles and boogies with panache. Infectiously good-humoured” (Uncut Magazine)... Also highly recommended!
This is just a handful of our upcoming shows - for our full listings make sure you check out the EVENTS PAGE on our website.
And if you don’t yet have plans tonight, we still have a handful of tickets left for THE FIRELIGHT TRIO (Weds 15th March) who play a rich tapestry of lively Swedish polskas and Scottish reels, lilting French waltzes, toe-tapping klezmer, and dazzling original tunes.
Hope to see you soon!
Lots of love,
Immy & Risa xx
