The Green Note, Camden Town, London - latest newsletter and events listings, September 2021.

Monday, September 13, 2021

The Green Note has forwarded its latest newsletter including details of forthcoming live and online events..

Upcoming Highlights including live streams from the venue!

Hello music lovers,

It’s been nearly two months now since we reopened, and during this time we’ve put on dozens of amazing live gigs for you… We’ve got lots more coming up over the next couple of weeks also, so make sure you check out our listings!

COOL WOMEN…
Over lockdown, we had hundreds of wonderful musicians join us for our Virtually Green Note live streamed series. Now we’re excited to say that some of them will be joining us live… This month we have two amazing women who put on great performances on our live stream, but are bound to be even more compelling in real life - KATEY BROOKS, playing on Tues 21st Sept and KATY ROSE BENNETT who will be launching her new album the following evening (22nd Sept).
For those of you who don’t know her, Katey Brooks is a talented singer-songwriter with a powerful, raw voice, whose music defies easy classification, with a sound blending folk, soul, blues and country. She has recorded with Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones and Paloma Faith at Abbey Road for BBC Radio 2’s Children in Need single, and has shared bills with a host of big names including Newton Faulkner, Ghostpoet, Martin Simpson amongst others, and we’re super excited to welcome her back!
Katy Rose Bennett will be celebrating the release of her 7th album, Alone On A Hill - performing with a 4-piece vocal ensemble. The album is a beautiful, emotionally raw yet ultimately joyful collection of multi-layered, a cappella vocal songs written and recorded during lockdown and inspired by living in rural isolation for the last year: songs of birds, trees, the wind; songs of surviving, growing peas and longing to sing with other people. Think The Beach Boys having a cuppa with Bjork, Bach and Bobby McFerrin!
Both these shows come highly recommended!

OTHER UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS…
Other upcoming highlights include…  an innovative interpretation of American Old-Time tradition, blending roots material with fresh arrangements and original compositions from WAYWARD JANE (Fri 24th Sept); Green Note favourites THE FOBO JUG BAND - a ragtime country-blues outfit sure to get your feet stomping (Fri 17th Sept); an afternoon matinée with TOUKI (Sun 26th Sept) - a stunning project which unites Senegal’s Amadou Diagne and French-American Cory Seznec in “unique kora-banjo-acoustic guitar combinations of a rare elegance.” (Rolling Stone France); traditional Bluegrass songs with a twist of British wit on the side from compelling live entertainers OLD BABY MACKEREL (Sat 25th Sept); a night of Yiddish roots music with London based klezmer band OYSLAND (Sun 26th Sept); and a stripped back, intimate solo triple-bill featuring three of London’s finest singer-songwriters GABRIEL MORENO, NED ROBERTS & PEARL FISH all of whom we’re big fans of (Sun 19th Sept)! Lots more fantastic shows too (far too many to mention here), so make sure you have a read through the listings on our events page…

LIVE STREAM…
If you’re not London based (or even if you are!) and would like to join us virtually, we have a live stream taking place from the venue at the end of the month (Mon 27th Sept) with our new state of the art multi camera live streaming equipment. Best known as one half of the legendary joint vocal strike force of The Men They Couldn’t Hang, PHIL ‘SWILL’ ODGERS will be bringing his razor sharp songwriting – a journey through kitchen sink realism and social commentary - to the Green Note stage! Tickets to the live show sold out within days, but we invite you to join us from the comfort of your own home!

WE’RE HIRING…
We are currently looking for a part-time bar-tender to join our lovely team. We are looking for someone who is outgoing, friendly, responsible and has at least two years bar-tending experience, as well as a broader interest in Green Note and what we do. If you think you might be right for this position or know someone who is, please email a CV and brief covering letter, telling us a bit about yourself and outlining why you would like to work for us. Or if you know anyone who might be right for this position, please forward this on!

TONIGHT…
And if you don’t yet have plans for tonight, we have a fantastic line-up of songwriters for you! Acclaimed and award-winning songwriter DAN WHITEHOUSE who has collaborated or toured with acts such as Joan as Policewoman, Kris Drever, Willy Mason, Gretchen Peters, Eddi Reader, and blues legend Peter Green, will be sharing the stage with one of the UK’s leading and most diverse singers - AINSLEY HAMILL who has a long list of nods including the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year Finalist and Gaelic Singer of the Year Finalist at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards. Opening the evening will be country/ folk/ pop artist ROSALIE DEIGHTON. This event comes highly recommended!

Hope to see you at one of our gigs very soon!

Lots of love,

Immy & Risa xx
