The Green Note has forwarded its latest newsletter including details of forthcoming musical events.

Upcoming Highlights at Green Note!

Dear music lovers,

We’re continuing into the Autumn with a fantastic programme of music - we’re now back to having gigs 7 nights a week, and (except for our covid safety precautions which are still in place), it’s starting to feel a lot like the ‘old days’ of live music….

Norwich-based JOSE MCGILL & THE VAGABAND have become firm favourites at Green Note, and we invite them back whenever we can! Their next appearance will be this Friday, 15th October and if you haven’t seen them yet, we highly recommend checking them out (and if you have, we’re sure you’d love to come back)!! Their soulful, rustic approach to their music makes their extraordinary blend of Americana, toe-tapping folk-jazz and soulful rock a unique proposition. Their musicianship means that consummate band-leader José McGill can rely on the band for sturdy backing as well as stellar improvisation for the fantastic home-grown repertoire and the inspired cover versions too. Not to be missed!

On Sunday 17th, we have a very special double bill featuring two unique acts. SPOTTISWOODE will open the night with his trademark combo of blues, rock, folk, cabaret and everything in between, drawing comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Ray Davies, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Randy Newman and Jim Morrison. Sharing the bill his friend HENRY DENNIS who fuses lyrical worlds he created with Ramsay Mackay as ‘The Fumes Of Mars’, and the new worlds he has conjured since as a solo artist. When playing live he features pared-down guitar and harmonic vocal loops that capture the raw emotion and energy of blues and psychedelic prog-rock.
A troubadour with a compelling voice, poignant lyrics and a gritty determination to his music, he draws influences from legends such as David Bowie, Elton John, Bruno Mars, and Neil Diamond. This night promises to be an interesting and enjoyable sonic journey!

The following week (22nd Oct), we look foward to welcoming back another Green Note favourite, KADIALY KOUYATE, who was born into the great line of Kouyate Griots in Southern Senegal. Kadialy’s mesmerising kora playing and singing style have been appreciated in many prestigious venues as both a soloist and in different ensembles. Kadialy draws on his heritage and its traditional songs to create his own mesmerising compositions, leading his fantastic band into the West African groove.

Other upcoming highlights include… 1930’s voodoo sounds with a steamy broth of vaudeville, skiffle, early calypso, country, blues and folk from JO CARLEY & THE OLD DRY SKULLS who make their Green Note debut this Saturday (16th Oct); Singer-songwriter KIRSTEN ADAMSON (19th Oct) who summons the same heart-stopping purity as Sandy Denny, by way of Emmylou Harris and Kate Bush; British Country artist JAKE MORRELL whose fans include the likes of Emily Eavis and Bob Harris, who will be playing at Paper Dress Vintage - one of our homes away from home next Wednesday (20th Oct) as part of our “Green Note Hits The Road” series; legendary troubadour RORY MCLEOD (21st Oct) who weaves magical, musical, storytelling spells accompanied by his own bizarre solo orchestra of distinctive instruments; and a new collaboration from two world class artists: Robert Plant’s collaborator JUSTIN ADAMS and renowned violinist MAURO DURANTE, which will be a hybrid show so you can buy tickets either to watch in person or from the comfort of your own home via live stream!

All this and lots more coming up (far too much to mention here!) so do keep an eye on our website listings!

And if you don’t yet have plans for tonight, we have a handful of tickets left for one of our favourite discoveries of the last few years - the multi-award winning Belfast born artist DOM MARTIN of whom Blues in Britain Magazine said “Now and again you stumble across a rare talent of such sheer genius that you actually wonder whether what you have witnessed can possibly be for real. Dom Martin is one such talent”

Hope to see you soon…

Lots of love,

Immy & Risa xx
