Royal Leamington Spa, UK
Presto Music, the leading specialist in classical and jazz music, is proud to reveal the winners of its 2025 Awards, celebrating the year’s best recordings, books, sheet music and more. Chosen from a longlist of more than 150 Finalists, the Awards celebrate the extraordinary breadth and vitality of music-making today.
“Our 2025 Presto Music Award winners made us listen afresh to core repertoire, told absorbing stories or made compelling cases for music that was new to all of us. They exemplify the curiosity, openness and artistic excellence that we at Presto champion every year,” said Presto Music CEO, Chris O’Reilly.
Jazz Awards
In 2025, jazz thrived globally with celebrations like Oscar Peterson’s centenary, the return of the Jazz FM Awards, and numerous concerts and festivals highlighting the very best of the genre. This year, artists have continued to champion what lies at the heart of jazz: its traditions, its diversity, and its commitment to transforming what has come before into something creative and new. Presto Music’s Top 5 Jazz Recordings showcase unexpected instrumentation, rich collaborations, and innovative cross-genre explorations, each one shaped by countless hours spent in rehearsal rooms, studios, and on stages around the world.
O’Reilly said:
“We are thrilled to showcase performances by world-renowned artists including Sir Simon Rattle and Brad Mehldau, alongside some of today’s most exciting rising talents such as Héloïse Werner and Theon Cross. Their recordings remind us how dynamic, diverse and forward-looking the musical landscape has become.”
Jazz Recording of the Year Awards
• Sema4 - ARQ
“Alison Rayner is an artist who has sustained the highest level of artistry and creativity throughout her career, becoming a staple of the British jazz scene. Her latest album
SEMA4 captures a range of genres whilst keeping this signature flair, and acts as an outstanding example of the magic that can come from a live recording.”
• After The Last Sky - Anouar Brahem
“Brahem over the past few decades has been acknowledged as one of the foremost innovators of the oud. After The Last Sky bridges traditions and transcends borders,
expanding the instrument’s expressive range whilst preserving its profound cultural resonance.”
• Affirmations - Live at Blue Note New York - Theon Cross
“With the tuba considered an unlikely candidate for the genre, Cross continues to be one of the most imaginative and boundary-pushing voices, and his latest album captures his innovative spirit and visionary outlook on what jazz can be.”
• Ride Into the Sun - Brad Mehldau
“Mehldau is a pianist that’s renowned for blending jazz tradition with classical sensibility, his latest project paying tribute to the late singer-songwriter Eliot Smith. The result is a sublime demonstration of what it means to reinterpret and reinvent, without losing sight of the original work.”
• Thrive - Fabienne Ambuehl
“In a seamless blend of jazz, lyricism, and folk, Fabienne Ambuehl brings poetry to life and crafts soundscapes that transport listeners into a magical world filled with warmth, imagination, and emotional truth. Thrive speaks to broader themes of nature, belonging, and identity, merging storytelling with deeply personal musical imagery.”
Jazz Special Awards
• Newcomer in Jazz 2025 - Olivia Cuttill
“Olivia Cuttill is a young artist who has made a remarkable impression this year: someone whose talent, creativity, and dedication signals a bright future in the years ahead. Her new album is inspired by family connection, soulful blues, and the spirit of New Orleans, featuring her distinctive trumpet sound.”
• Jazz Organisation of the Year – ECN Music
“Over the last three years ECN Music has exemplified what true dedication to the jazz community looks like. Offering bespoke, highly personalised support to every artist they work with, this organisation not only empowers musicians to retain ownership of their music and provides them with meaningful media opportunities, but also delivers expert guidance in global distribution, promotional strategy, project management, and album design.
After the sad passing of Martin Hummel and the closure of the Ubuntu Music label mid- year, the musicians and artists formerly associated with the label have retained a vital platform through which to share their work through the support of ECN Music, and their commitment to the Brubeck Living Legacy Prize has ensured not only the programme’s remarkable success, but its continued growth into next year. This organisation’s contribution to the jazz community has been truly exceptional, making them unquestionably deserving of the highest recognition.”
• Best Jazz Archive/Reissue - Verve: The Moment Of Truth: Ella At The Coliseum
“This is a rare and radiant window into Ella Fitzgerald at her peak during a live concert, featuring tracks that have never been recorded elsewhere. With a voice full of warmth and purity, and an improvisational genius that delighted audiences, there’s no doubt that what we hear is a legitimate treasure.”
