More details
Saxophonist Asha Parkinson has forwarded the following information regarding this event;
My friend, the brilliant Egyptian vocalist Amena El Abd, who will be giving her final recital on Friday 27th June at 12:15pm at Silk Street Music Hall, Guildhall School of Music & Drama. The performance will feature a unique blend of jazz-infused Arabic music, with a few Brazilian touches woven in.
She recently released a moving and beautifully crafted piece titled “Baad El Harb (After the War)”, in collaboration with lyricistAhmed Mohsen, composer and oud player Mohamed Abozekry, and arranger/guitaristZiad Hisham. I’ve attached the video, which includes archival footage from the documentary films Children of Gaza (2010) and Dreams of Exile (2004):

She brings such a bittersweet, yet powerful presence to her singing and deserves recognition! (below is a video of her in action at London Jazz Festival)
