The ‘PPianissimo Series’ is the brainchild of two musicians operating in the area between jazz and classical music: pianist John Law and saxophonist Jon Lloyd. Press release and schedule attached.

PPianissimo Series at Bristol Music Club

There’s a new music series starting up at a beautiful, tucked-away secret of a concert venue in Bristol: Bristol Music Club in Clifton. Entitled ‘PPianissimo Series’ it’s the brainchild of two of the UK’s best-known musicians operating in the area between jazz and classical music: pianist John Law and saxophonist Jon Lloyd.

John and Jon, who have been playing, touring and recording together for 35 years now, will be presenting new music, combining both written compositions and open, inspirational improvisations, bringing together many different creative UK musicians, but no drums. Instead, on the first Friday of every month - generally at the early time of 6pm, between people finishing work and later in the evening when they might like to go out for dinner - the series will be presenting music of a more delicate, ambient nature, often contemplative and concentrating on Sound, Space and Silence.

So is it jazz? A bit.
Is it classical? Yes quite a bit.
Can I hear the blues in there somewhere? Yes you can! But more as a sort of European folk scale version of it.
Ah is there folk music in there somewhere? Yes! That too!
Key genres: European, contemporary, jazz, classical, minimalism, ambient, ECM.
Key subjective, descriptive words might be: atmosphere, beauty, space, silence, sometimes hypnotic/minimalist repeating rhythms.
