Rwandan-born Belgian vocalist & songwriter now resident in the UK, Ineza’s star is rising rapidly, with her enticing blend of jazz and soul captivating audiences and critics alike. Alongside regular quintet performances Ineza has toured with award-winning singer-songwriter Tom Odell and the Down for the Count Orchestra, starred as ‘Valaida’ in the original cast of the London immersive theatre experience The Greatest Night of the Jazz Age and is a member of the acclaimed London Vocal Project. Her two previous EP’s caught the attention of BBC Introducing & Fresh on the Net and with the release of her debut full-length record “IBUKA”, her profile is reaching new heights - BBC Radio London “this is wonderful”, BBC Radio 6 “I love this”. Described by Ineza as a “deeply personal story”, it is dedicated to her adoptive mother, Francine, and reflects Ineza’s journey from Rwanda to Belgium and now London, focusing on themes of loss, healing and growth. She can belt out a song, dramatize a lyric, swing hard and earthy, flirt, sing a tender song - Lily can tell a story” ABC. In an extensive and highly respected career London-based Lily Dior is recognized as one of Australia’s foremost vocalists. Tonight’s performance will be a mix of classic jazz standards and the groovier, funkier side of her repertoire, all performed with the powerful and charismatic vocals that are Lily’s trademark. Her stellar band tonight features the robust, melodic, playing of 606 favourite Dave Lewis-sax (see Fri 3rd).

Dave Lewis’s robust and melodic tenor playing has been heard with a notable list of artists including John Martyn, Bryan Ferry, Joan Armatrading, John Mayall, Eric Clapton and The Blockheads. His own band features an impressive array of talent fronted by the fabulous singer Lizzie Deane, who has worked with the likes of Carleen Anderson, Mica Paris and Jocelyn Brown. With a strong emphasis on groove, improvisation and spontaneous melodic interplay, 1UP is one of the tightest, funkiest bands on the scene.

Alex Garnett’s powerful, flowing, hard bop sax has been heard with many world class musicians, including Wynton Marsalis, Kurt Elling, Van Morrison and Charlie Watts, as well as being a pivotal member of the Ronnie Scott’s All Stars. He has performed in over 30 countries, appearing at such prestigious venues as the Blue Note, Lincoln Center and Birdland in NY as well as Montreux, Oslo and North Sea Jazz Festivals. Tonight Alex brings to the Club a special programme in honour of the late legend of soul jazz, the iconic alto saxophonist “Papa” Lou Donaldson. Best known for his bebop-influenced soulful, bluesy, style Lou reached out well beyond hard-core jazz fans. Sharing Lou’s ethos, as well as world class musicianship Alex’s shows also offer a great night’s entertainment. Also featured tonight the excellent pianist Rob Barron (Al Jarreau) & his trio.

Singer Fleur Stevenson is gifted with a honeyed vocal tone, sparkling presentation and a strong grasp of the jazz idiom. She has appeared at numerous prestige venues and released two highly regarded albums including ‘For All We Know’, which was amongst Jazz Views’ ‘Best Albums of the Year’. Also featured today will be saxophonist Art Themen, a leading light of the British jazz scene for over 50 years. Lively arrangements of jazz favourites and Fleur’s gift for storytelling alongside Art’s inventive playing create a unique warm and exciting sound.

An Award-winning vocalist and songwriter, Jo Harrop has established herself as one of the UK’s leading jazz performers. Inspired by the classic jazz singers she possesses a wonderfully clear, controlled and expressive voice that has led to 4 highly regarded albums, including a Parliamentary Jazz Award ‘Album of the Year’ and an invitation to tour with US jazz star Gregory Porter. A song stylist whose influences are steeped in jazz, blues and soul her intimate, velvet, smoky tone is universally admired. Tonight her set will feature material from her last 5 albums plus a glimpse into songs from her forthcoming record, “Love Now, Pay Later”, to be released in 2026. She describes the gig as “flavours of jazz, soul & blues with newer infusions of Americana and northern soul”. With multiple plaudits for her work Jo’s star is very much in the ascendancy. Ray Russell is a guitarist/composer who has had a truly exceptional career. Primarily known for his session work his playing can be heard on David Bowie’s Space Oddity, Tina Turner’s Private Dancer and numerous other tracks with artists as diverse as Freddie Mercury, Gil Evans and Andy Williams. He also composed a vast array of award-winning soundtracks, including the themes to “Bergerac” and “A Touch of Frost”. Tonight’s show will focus on music from Ray’s upcoming new record, “Why Wait To Be Invited” as well as the anthology, “Prog Reimagined”, and for this he’s put together a band of superb players: Jim Watson-piano, George Baldwin-bass, Ian Palmer-drums, Charlie Baldwin-synths and special guest, Tim Whitehead (Loose Tubes, ‘Nucleus’)-tenor sax. With Ray’s trademark blend of R&B, jazz-rock and jazz fusion this is a unique gig.

American-born saxophonist Dan Reinstein first began playing at the old 606 Club when a medical student in the 1980’s. He returned to the US in the early 90s to become one of the world’s leading laser eye surgeons (he’s now Professor Reinstein), but when he returned to London, it was great to hear his fluent, classic hard-bop, muscular sax playing again and the rest, as they say, is history. Dan & his quartet have performed here for the last 20+ years and still going!

Wed 8th 8:00pm ARNIE SOMOGYI/MARK EDWARDS’ “ELLINGTON PIANO PROJECT”
Few would imagine that jazz legend Duke Ellington, one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, made his final recording in Eastbourne, on the South Coast of England. Yet it was here, at The Congress Theatre, that Ellington delivered his swan song, a live concert immortalised on the 1975 RCA album, The Eastbourne Performance (his last officially-released recording). 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of this landmark, and to celebrate this legacy leading jazz musicians, bassist Arnie Somogyi and pianist Mark Edwards, have recorded a brand-new album, ‘The Ellington Piano Project’, that rekindles Ellington’s spirit and showcases the piano played during that historic concert. Nominated for both BBC Radio and Parliamentary Jazz Awards, Arnie has worked with the likes of NY-based Mingus Big Band, Tom Jones, Charlie Watts and Amy Winehouse, while Mark’s numerous credits include familiar names in both the popular and jazz worlds such as Katie Melua, Aztec Camera, Paul Weller, Ben Castle and Claire Martin, as well as leading his own band the Cloggz. The Ellington Piano Project also features the melodic trumpet of Chris Coull, New York-based Dutch tenor virtuoso Gideon Tazelaar (Wynton Marsalis, Eric Alexander) and rising star Matthew Holmes on drums. With fresh reworkings of classic Ellington compositions placed alongside original music inspired by Ellington’s improvisations on Eastbourne Performance, this promises to be a memorable evening of exceptional quality.

The multi-Award-winning guitarist/composer Attila Laszlo is one of the most popular jazz artists in Hungary. His flowing, melodic, guitar playing has been heard with the likes of Randy Brecker, Billy Cobham & Peter Erskine as well as with his own highly regarded bands. His many accolades include the Distinguished Artist Award, Composer of the Year and the Gramofon Jazz Prize and recently 3000 people voted his band Fusion Circus “Band of the Year” and Attila himself “Jazz Guitarist of the Year”. A genuinely great player who will be performing this evening alongside a powerhouse, groove rhythm section featuring Jim Watson-piano, Laurence Cottle-bass & Jamie Murray-drums.

Already establishing himself as one of the next UK jazz stars, alto saxophonist Donovan Haffner has performed with a multitude of established names, including the likes of Moses Boyd, Jay Phelps, Rasmus Sorensen and US legend Charles Tolliver. In 2024 he was selected as a finalist for both the Parliamentary Jazz Awards “Jazz Newcomer of the Year” and The Musicians’ Company’s “Tina May Award”. The quintet tonight, featuring Francisco Garcia de Paredes-guitar & Jay Verma-piano, will present Donovan’s own original music, including a selection from his recently released debut album “Alleviate” alongside some classic jazz standards. This talented band expertly balance complexity with a sense of melody, accessibility and groove.

An engagingly melodic saxophone player in the classic mainstream style, Greg Davis led the band ‘Henry’s Pencil’ which held the attendance record at the famous 100 Club in Oxford Street for some time. A stalwart of the French Riviera (that’s Greg’s description, not ours!) he also performed at the Cannes Film Festival for over a decade. Today Greg will be appearing with Paul Eldridge-piano, Julian Bury-bass and their Special Guest vocalist Vanessa Rose, “performing some of the marvellous known and lesser-known jazz standards”.

With a BA (Hons) in Music Performance, over the last 10 years Joss Coyle has honed her craft as both a singer and songwriter. A soulful vocalist Joss has developed a rich, expressive, style that seamlessly blends soul, indie and jazz. Her 2023 self-penned debut single “I’m Fine” was received with some critical acclaim and this evening her set will, as she puts it “draw on the timeless music of artists such as Amy Winehouse, Aretha Franklin and Norah Jones” as well, of course, as some of her own material. An impressive upcoming voice on the scene.

After the critical acclaim given to the trio’s brilliant project “Alexander Scriabin’s Ragtime Band” (MOJO’s Jazz CD of the Year), their latest record ‘Pachyderm’, which they are showcasing tonight, marks a return to the group’s original compositions. The trio-David Gordon-piano, Oli Hayhurst-bass and Tom Hooper-drums will feature a selection from the new record together with some brand-new originals, choros from Brazil and one or two golden oldies. Denny Ilett is a versatile guitarist/singer who has worked with the likes of US stars Lillian Boutte & PeeWee Ellis as well as members of Goldfrapp & Portishead. Saxophonist/singer Pete Long is a renowned jazz musician, who’s CV includes work with Jools Holland, Tom Jones and Lionel Richie. Tonight these two master musicians join forces…over to them: “It’s the late 1940’s - the bebop revolution is in full swing. After a stint with the iconic Horace Silver band Benn moved to the US and has gone on to establish himself as a musician of impressive pedigree and talent, working with the likes of Billy Higgins, Cab Calloway & Cedar Walton. Tonight Benn will be performing with his quartet a mix of classic, post-bop jazz standards and material from his latest recording “The Pursuit”. A powerful and impressive player.

The 2022 winner of the Riga Jazz Stage International Jazz Voice competition, Louise Balkwill has been hailed as one of the UK’s leading vocal improvisers and storytellers. Most recently she’s been appearing with celebrated vocal harmony trio The Puppini Sisters and was also featured at our 2024 Jazz on the Lawn show (where she was absolutely sensational)! Appearing with her trio Louise will be performing songs from the Great American Songbook featured in her debut album “First Class”.

Sarah Jane Morris’ enviable career spans from early 80s, politically active bands The Republic, Happy End and the Communards through to her current international success as a singer/songwriter of undeniable stature. Concert highlights have included a Swing Ladies concert with Chaka Khan and Monserrat Caballe, a European Tour with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the “What Women Want” concert with Sinead O’Connor and Chrissie Hynde. This evening Sarah Jane returns to the 606 with her latest show, “The Sisterhood”. A representation of Sarah Jane’s roots, inspirations and indefatigable love of contemporary music-making and its iconic pioneers, ‘The Sisterhood’ celebrates twelve female stars who were an integral part of singing and songwriting in the 20th century from Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday & Nina Simone to Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell & Kate Bush. Barry Green is a wonderful modern jazz pianist whose fluent and melodic playing has made a significant impact on the UK jazz scene. His cv is vast, including work with the likes of Bobby Watson, Charles McPherson, Richie Cole and Us3 as well as with his own trio. For this 606 date Barry is bringing his “Generations” trio to the Club featuring the excellent young singer Aitzi Cofre Real alongside the iconic UK bassist Dave Green (Stan Tracey, Charlie Watts).

The impressive multi-award-winning singer/guitarist Ray Beadle is one of Australia’s foremost Blues & Americana artists! A precocious talent Ray spent 20+ years working with and learning from the best, including many years with the Foreday Riders (known as the ‘University of the Blues’ in Australia). Now an established solo artist he is widely respected on the International Blues scene as an exhilarating guitarist, an enthralling singer-songwriter and a consummate performer. A three-month residency with the house band in BB King’s Club in Memphis, as well as several Southern Blues festivals, have been defining moments during Ray’s three tours of the USA. With 15 albums to his name he has, unsurprisingly, been recognized with multiple Australian Blues awards. He won his first Award, “New Male Artist”, in 1997 and has since gone on to win Best Artist, Best Album, Best Guitarist & Best Vocalist, recently being inducted into the Australia Blues Hall of Fame. Tonight, in a rare appearance in the UK he will be bringing his powerful Blues/Americana set to the Club with his trio, featuring the great Enrico “Mick” Morena-drums. Wed 22nd 8:00pm ROLAND PERRIN’S BLUE PLANET ORCHESTRA
Schooled in Latin, African, Brazilian and jazz, musician/composer/educator Roland Perrin’s many achievements include the lauded full-length opera for choir and jazz band “Lansky” and the 300 strong choral, jazz/Brazilian tour de force “Rio Amazonas”. Tonight, as Roland puts it, “expect a kaleidoscope of world music grooves filtered through a mix of jazz and compositional narrative”, featuring both original material, as well as surprising re-workings of classic jazz repertoire. Roland’s Blue Planet Orchestra is comprised of some of London’s most accomplished musicians, including Jeremy Shoham & Bob McKay-saxes and Paul Taylor-trombone.

A soulful and versatile jazz & blues singer-songwriter, Meg Lee has graced stages alongside artists such as Rumer, Kat Eaton and Sarah Jane Morris. Bringing a contemporary edge to timeless classics Meg is also a fine songwriter, with her own material earning regional and national airplay. Her various recordings include her 2018 debut album “Meet Me” along with her follow up EP “Wintertime Thing” and her latest single, “Big Beautiful Beat”. Known for her warm stage presence and natural charm, Meg’s style is a true mix of the old and the new and we are delighted to welcome her to the Club tonight. UK-based Venezuelan pianist Edgar Macias is a sought-after pianist in a variety of styles, from jazz to salsa. His vast and impressive cv includes work with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, David Murray & Scott Hamilton and tonight he will be showcasing his tribute to the iconic Cuban band The Buena Vista Social Club. The band and the Grammy-winning album of the same name became a worldwide phenomenon, selling over eight million records. Featuring Chris Bowden-sax, Tom Hill-bass/vocals, Miles Levin-drums & Nestor Pedrales-percussion this project is Edgar’s “take” on that album, featuring his arrangements of all the classic tracks. If you like Latin music you will love this!

The gig this evening features three of the finest musicians in the UK, Joe Webb, Alec Harper and Will Sach alongside their Special Guest, drummer Francesco Ciniglio. Pianist Joe Webb has become a force to be reckoned with on the UK jazz scene. Featured on Jamie Cullum’s Christmas album his own recording ‘Hamstrings & Hurricanes’ has just been nominated for a Mercury Prize! A regular with the Jamie Cullum band Alec Harper has established himself as one of the leading tenor saxophonists of his generation. A NY native, award-winning bassist Will Sach is a member of Joe Webb’s Mercury-Prize nominated trio who has performed with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Joe Farnsworth and Jamie Cullum. Italian-born drummer Francesco Ciniglio moved to New York at the age of 21 to study and hasn’t looked back. Now based in Paris his subtle but swinging playing has been heard with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Aaron Parks, Dayna Stephens, Seamus Blake & Donny McCaslin - a truly impressive player. The music will be, as Joe describes it, “a mix of my music and swinging tunes”.

After establishing himself in his native Brazil, multi-instrumentalist/singer/composer Kaw Regis reached new heights upon moving to the UK. Kaw’s first musical love is Brazilian MPB & bossa nova and for this 606 show he will be joined by some of London’s finest Latin jazz musicians, including Carl Hudson-piano and Jansen Santana- percussion. Featuring songs from different eras and regions of Brazil, as well as some original material, this promises to be a memorable afternoon of great music from those who really know how to play it!

Probably best known for his work as the original lead singer/guitarist with The Average White Band, Hamish Stuart has had an illustrious career as both songwriter and performer. He has worked with the likes of Diana Ross, George Benson and Chaka Khan (for whom he wrote the No. 1 chart hit ‘Whatcha Gonna Do For Me’) culminating in six years with Paul McCartney. A regular member of Ringo Starr’s All Star band Hamish’s shows are always a special occasion. Tonight he will be appearing with his powerhouse 10-piece band: Jim Watson & Ross Stanley-keyboards; Adam Phillips-guitar; Steve Pearce-bass & Ian Thomas-drums, plus the 4-piece HS Horns.

Growing up in London, pianist Diarra Walcott-Ivanhoe has had a rich and diverse musical upbringing that exposed him to Jazz, Soul, Reggae, Calypso and Soca. His love and appreciation of these different styles ultimately led to performances at venues such as the Jazz Café, Royal Albert Hall and Westminster Cathedral. The music he will be playing with his quintet this evening will be a mix of jazz standards from the American jazz tradition as well as the contemporary jazz scenes of New York and London, alongside his thoughtful, swinging originals. Also featured will be John Alcock-sax and Matthew Hill-trumpet.

This promises to be a delightful evening featuring two highly accomplished musicians, vocalist Helena Debono, pianist/arranger Charlie Bates and their quintet. Charlie has been the recipient of the Dankworth Award, the Eddie Harvey Award and an Ivor Novello award and music from his debut album has been broadcast on TV and radio. An in-demand singer who has performed at Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, Buckingham Palace & Wembley Stadium Helena’s own debut record has generated over 30K streams on Spotify. In 2024 Charlie and Helena recorded “A Thousand Nights” featuring a 55-piece orchestra, which was chosen as Jazz FM’s “Record of the Week”. The show today will include a selection of music from that album, a mix of original songs and jazz classics. And watch out for their Special Guest, the fine trumpet player Miguel Gorodi (Ian Shaw, Jamie Cullum, SEED Ensemble).

Frank Walden’s wonderfully fluent and creative sax playing has been heard with an impressive array of high profile international artists. It’s a reflection of his talent that after touring and recording extensively with Amy Winehouse he went on to another lengthy association with the great Sir Tom Jones, both recording and touring with Tom for almost 10 years. These days he’s a busy studio musician and educator as well as a regular here at the Club. Now, after many years playing with other people’s bands, Frank has finally recorded his own album, ‘Objets Trouvés’, which he is launching this evening. Featuring the musicians from the album, Andrew Noble–piano, James Fenn–guitar, Phil Donnelly–bass & Darren Beckett-drums Frank describes the programme as “an ode to music that I have loved throughout my career, including re-imaginings of material by Amy and Tom Jones as well as songs from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Keith Jarrett & Pat Metheny”, and not forgetting the odd original from Frank as well. This promises to be a standout evening of great music from some of the finest musicians in the UK.

Featuring the brilliant Brazilian vocalist Carolina Lelis alongside the powerful piano of Neil Angilley and the swinging flute of our “Gov’nor” Steve Rubie the band take you on a road trip around Brazil, with music from the South, the North, the North East and beyond. Hear the stories behind some of Brazil’s classic songs and join the band as they perform an infectious blend of Brazilian Samba, Baião, jazz & Latin while everyone has a great time!
