October 19th – 11am – Ela Southgate plus The Chris Coull Quartet
Following on from her much lauded “Getz-Gilberto” concert earlier this year, vocalist Ela Southgate brings the project to The Ropetackle with a selection of beautiful songs made famous by João Gilberto and his wife, Astrud by the master of the Bossa Nova, Antônio Carlos Jobim.
Joining band leader and trumpet player Chris, will be Mark Edwards at the piano, Paul Whitten on double bass and Joe Edwards on drums.
As always, pastries will be available to purchase, and the bar will be open.
November 16th – 11am – Sam Carelse plus The Chris Coull Quartet
Brighton based singer Sam has wowed audiences since bursting onto the scene some 10 or so years ago. Equally adept at singing with her Gypsy jazz group ‘Amuse Manouche’ here, Sam turns her attention to two greats of the post-war jazz vocalist; Ela Fitzgerald, lauded for her witty inventiveness and beautiful swinging vocal style and Anita O’Day, famous for her standout performance at the Newport jazz festival documented by the legendary movie ‘Jazz On A Summer’s Day’.
The house band is led by trumpeter Chris Coull, with the rhythm section led by stand-out pianist Mark Edwards, Paul Whitten on bass and Angus Bishop drums.
As always, pastries will be available to purchase, and the bar will be open.
December 26th – 11am Alan Barnes plus The Chris Coull Quartet
Christmas Special
This special Boxing Day concert sees host Chris Coull joined by several multi-award winning musicians, including world-renowned saxophonist Alan Barnes. The band will be playing jazz standards as well as some tunes from Alan’s suite “A Christmas Carol” – Bah Humbug!
Backed by a trio featuring Mark Edwards (piano), Paul Whitten (bass), and Joe Edwards (drums), this promises to be festive treat for all jazz fans.
As always, pastries will be available to purchase, and the bar will be open.
