Hello Green Note Music Lovers,
June is here, and Green Note is buzzing with an eclectic mix of live music to keep your spirits high and your feet tapping. From soulful world rhythms to vintage rock ‘n’ roll, our stage is set for a month of unforgettable performances!
UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS…
f you’re mourning the lack of Womad this year, we have some early treats in store! This Friday (6th June), we’re thrilled to welcome back Senegalese guitarist ABDOULAYE SAMB and his band, whose intricate African rhythms promise to transport you straight to West Africa, and Sunday (8th June) brings the mesmerizing kora player SURA SUSSO, offering delicate, soulful sounds from The Gambia. Both highly recommended!
We’re also delighted to be part of the Rebetiko Carnival again this year! We’re hosting four dates as part of the festival, starting this Sunday (8th June) with a matinée - TIP THE WAITER - HOMECOMING, so if you fancy being transported to Greece, do check our website for more details on these!
If you’re a fan of folky singer-songwriters we have some gorgeous artists coming up this month! This Wednesday (4th June) we’re super excited for Canada’s DANA SIPOS to make her Green Note debut. We first discovered Dana when she played our ‘Virtually Green Note’ series during lockdown, and we’re delighted she’s finally going to be gracing our stage in person! We also have a gorgeous trans-Atlantic double bill this Thursday (5th June) with the return of US artist LINDSAY CLARK (“Stunning… if you enjoy the ethereal folk sounds of Joan Shelley, then I am hoping you’ll love the album I’ve had on repeat from Lindsay Clark called Carpe Noctem.” NPR) and UK artist OMAM DAWN. And later in the month
Highlands-based songwriter IONA LANE presents her latest album, weaving ecology, conservation, islands and folklore into poetic songs and contemplative melodies (Weds 18th June). All highly recommended!
We’re also delighted to present a special matinée (Saturday 14th June) with FIRELIGHT TRIO, whose cross-cultural blend of klezmer, French waltzes, and Swedish polskas is nothing short of exhilarating! And on the jazzier side, THE COSIMO MATASSA PROJECT brings the spirit of New Orleans to our stage next Friday (13th June), with their mix of 50s RnB, jazz, soul, mambo, ballads and much more. British blues icon DANA GILLESPIE makes her debut for what’s sure to be a spellbinding performance following a 60 year career(!) (Sat 14th June), and THE CLOCK WINDERS turn back time with a nostalgic repertoire of swing, jazz and acoustic country music to create an enchanting old timey show perfect for bringing out your inner hepcat (Sat 14th June). So much to look forward to!
This is just a selection of the many incredible artists who will be gracing our stage in the coming weeks, so please do check out our EVENTS PAGE for the full listings. And please note that many of our shows sell out in advance, so we highly recommend grabbing your tickets early to avoid disappointment!
