April Highlights - part 2

Hello music lovers,

Hope you’re doing well…

Just a little reminder about some of the gigs we’ve got coming up!

You can check out the events page on our website for our full listings, but in the meantime, here are a few selected highlights…

UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS…

On Wednesday 24th April, we’re really looking forward to welcoming EDERLEZI - aka David Page and Hannah Nicholson - who take inspiration from the classic songwriting of the 1960’s. Hannah is influenced by Songwriters such as Scott Walker, Jackson Brown, Joni Mitchell and is always looking for a story. David is influenced by the guitar based Rock n roll of the 50s, the psychedelic 60s and the bass styles of Serge Gainsbourg with some prog rock mixed in. David is the bass player in the Pretenders and has worked with Jonanthan Jeremiah, Young Gun Silver Fox, Rio 18, His Lordship, Nell Bryden, Edwyn Collins, The Black Pumas as a Guitarist / Bass player / Singer and collaborator. Hannah is a solo artist in her own right, a prominent troubadour and songwriter on the London Folk scene. She has also worked with Hannah Williams and the Affirmations, Ellie Goulding, Gary Barlow, Jonathan Jeremiah, Nell Bryden as a backing singer and instrumentalist. Together, their music seeks to capture that indefinable something that resounds in the stories of lives lived with passion: addiction and anger and civil unrest; the search for something beyond commodities and commerce; and it beats with a nomadic, bohemian heart. Not to be missed!

Other upcoming highlights include THE UNTOUCHABLES - some of London’s finest champions of swinging blues,  (Sat 20th April) who will transport you back to the days of rent parties and rumbas of the 50s when the great blues masters kept them dancing ‘til the early hours. The fantastic GYPSY DREAMERS are back next Friday (19th April) promising a mix of originals, jazz, chansons and a healthy dollop of Irish charm. Straybirds founder MAYA DE VITRY whose voice has been called “among the most ethereal and pure in roots music” (Glide Magazine) presents her solo work this Sunday (21st April). We have a special matinée from talented local Roots troubadour SEAN TAYLOR and his trio - “Articulate, compelling … brilliant” Mojo (Sat 27th April). Our outstandingly talented resident piano-led trio WEBB CITY are back next Tuesday (23rd April) for their monthly jazz shenanigans, taking inspiration from the trios of Oscar Peterson, Nat ‘King’ Cole, and Art Tatum. And at the end of the month, we welcome ANATOLIAN ECHOES - a celebration of Alevi & Kurdish heritage featuring Istanbul-born singer Çiğdem Aslan who sings in many languages and regional styles with Turkish born musician Tahir Palalı plus special guests! There’s something for everyone!

GREEN NOTE HITS THE ROAD

We have two really great shows still coming up this month at our homes away from home…

On Mon 22nd April, we look forward to welcoming the amazing CARSIE BLANTON to the Lexington (Islington). Carsie is a songwriter with hooks, chutzpah, and revolutionary optimism. Inspired by artist-activists including Nina Simone and Woody Guthrie, her catalogue careens through American popular song from folk and swing to pop-punk protest anthems. With her unique mix of humour, soul, and political wit, and fifteen-plus years on the road, Blanton has amassed a dedicated fan base and a small menagerie of viral hits. Carsie performed on what was probably our favourite episode of ‘Virtually Green Note’ (remember those?!) and we can’t wait to welcome her live and in person!

And on Thurs 25th April, we present the one and only LAUREN RUTH WARD at the Water Rats (Kings Cross). Declared by music critics as a cross between Janis Joplin, Florence Welch and Courtney Barnett, Lauren Ruth Ward is a force of nature! Lauren will be performing new music with a full band and a fuller heart!

And lots more ‘on the road’ shows coming up next month including KIMMIE RHODES, RUTH THEODORE, BLAIR DUNLOP, BUFFALO SKINNERS, JILL JACKSON and KATHRYN WILLIAMS & WITHERED HAND… Check out the events page on our website for more details!

RECENTLY ANNOUNCED…
We’re constantly adding events to our calendar so keep an eye on our website and socials… We have a global lineup coming up this year, including a couple of British folk matinées from award winning folk singer EMILY PORTMAN and banjo player JACKEN ELSWYTH; one of the only artists in the world to write and compose in the endangered Ladino language - NANI VAZANA; Ukrainian-born singer, songwriter, hurdy-gurdy player IRYNA MUHA; some top class North American performers including ROSE COUSINS, Austin’s GRAHAM WEBER, Seattle country-rock band MASSY FERGUSON, award-winning NY artist RACHAEL SAGE, outstanding Canadian multi-instrumentalist TEILHARD FROST who specialises in Appalacian old-time music, and the stunning ST CATHERINE’S CHILD who blew us away with her performance at this year’s AMA-UK Awards and we immediately knew we had to book her! And finally, ‘THE LONNIE DONEGAN STORY - The Man who launched The Beatles and The British Invasion’, performed by Warren James and his band who sing the story and songs of Lonnie Donegan’s rise to fame as The King of Skiffle.

All this and many more great shows to come, so please do check out our events page for more details and the full line up…

Hope to see you soon!

Lots of love,
Immy & Risa xx
