Anniversary edition of Battersea Jazz Festival taking place this June

Battersea, London, March 23 - This year’s edition of the annual Battersea Jazz Festival will take place from June 3-13. The fifth edition of the jazz festival that celebrates national and international jazz talent will once again offer a multitude of styles and sounds across venues in and around Battersea.

The festival will open with a bang: nothing less than a jazz ballet. The Hugo Jennings Big Band and Battersea’s E33 Dance Company come together for a night of music and dance featuring a brand new jazz arrangement and choreography of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet at the iconic Clapham Grand. The legendary American jazz tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton will also feature. Together with Nat Steele he will bring a programme of swing and straight-ahead jazz to St. Mary’s Church in Battersea. Other festival gigs include QOW Trio, Genevieve Namazzi Quartet, Deschanel Gordon Trio, Jim Davison Quartet, and Emily Masser-Alex Clarke Quintet. The full programme can be found at http://www.batterseajazzfestival.co.uk.

The festival’s anniversary edition comes with several changes that reflect its five-year development and growth: A fresh look and feel with a renewed logo; a Festival Pass on offer that gives jazz enthusiasts heavily discounted access to all performances in the programme; and to top it off, the festival will host performances in two new venues: Battersea Barge and Arches Lane Theatre.

Founder Hugo Jennings said:
“This fifth edition of the festival is a special one for me. What started as one weekend in 2022 has grown into a celebrated annual event in the London jazz calendar which brings some of my favourite musicians in the world to the local area. This year we have performances across even more venues than before, offering a wider audience the opportunity to experience the joy of jazz.”

Battersea Jazz Festival is a Community Interest Company (CIC), registered in England and Wales, company number 14633499.

The Battersea Jazz Festival was founded in 2022 by pianist, singer, and conductor, Hugo Jennings. He came up with the idea for the festival when he was composing a “Jazz Mass” for the choir of St. Mary’s Battersea, and wanted to create a platform for jazz musicians in London, and to celebrate the community of Battersea. This year will see the fifth edition, with both local and international musicians performing at various locations in the Battersea area. http://www.batterseajazzfestival.co.uk/
