Thurs 6th Aug:
Wild Women of Wylam
All-female jazz quintet, The Wild Women of Wylam blend diverse musical influences, from smoky blues and RnB, to high-energy Latin rhythms, to bouncy swing. Expect soul-stirring vocals, silky harmonies, blazing trumpet, and groove-heavy beats. With Andrea Harris on vocals, Jude Murphy on double bass, Helen Walker on trumpet and flugelhorn, Caroline Guir on keys and Alison Paton on drums.
Thurs 13th Aug: Eva Fox & the Sound Hounds PLUS Steve Glendinning
Jazz vocalist Eva Fox is joined by seasoned musicians on the local jazz scene: the multi-tasking, musical stylings of Jude Murphy on bass, organ and piano aficionado Steve Chambers and all-rounder drummer Sid White.
New to the Sound Hounds, we welcome guitarist Steve Glendinning, a successful recording artist, session player and educator, who has performed globally. Specialising in jazz, flamenco and world musics, including South American and Afro-Cuban styles.
Thurs 20th Aug: Edson Angus Quartet
Introducing the Edson Angus Quartet, a fresh jazz outfit delivering original swinging music as well as their own arrangements of classic jazz standards. Regulars of The Black Swan’s Tuesday Jazz Jam, Edson and his crew will treat audiences to a new, exclusive gig.
Tues 25th Aug: Michael Young Trio
Presenting Michael Young on piano, Paul Grainger on bass and Abbie Finn on drums - this hot new trio takes songs you know and pulls them into new shapes. Moving freely between jazz standards and fresh reworkings of artists including Hendrix, The Beatles and Sting. The result is melodic and inventive - sometimes laid-back, sometimes intense, always driven by chemistry between the three musicians.
