Spectacularly creative vocalist Christie Dashiell releases her long-awaited second album, Journey in Black.
The daughter of jazz bassist Carroll Dashiell Jr, Washington DC-born and North Carolina-raised Dashiell has been singing for as long as she can remember and brings a deeply rooted musical lineage to her performances.
Recognized for her improvisational prowess, a stratospheric scatting ability and her effortlessly rich and clear tone, Dashiell has become one of the most sought-after artists on the international jazz scene today. She has appeared with master drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, vibraphonist Stefon Harris, the collective Black Lives, saxophonists Lakecia Benjamin and Marcus Strickland, producer Adam Blackstone and many other leading performers.
“Journey in Black” strongly emphasizes Dashiell’s character and enhances her reputation. Already the recipient of a rare 5-star review from Downbeat Magazine, the album features seven original compositions and two arrangements that explore themes of freedom, legacy, grief and joy. Featuring both straight-ahead jazz and soul-influenced songs, the album gives an honest depiction of Dashiell’s life and musical influences.

Being a conduit for emotion and awareness through the bass, Joe Sanders does the utmost to constantly and creatively be in the moment with every note he plays.
As a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin he developed an appetite for various musical styles throughout his adolescence, from hearing blues on the radio to exalted voices in the Baptist Church.
Joe has been fortunate to perform and learn alongside such luminaries as Dave Brubeck, Christian McBride, Terence Blanchard, Ron Carter, Roy Hargrove, John Clayton, Jimmy Heath, Charlie Haden, Herbie Hancock, Charles Lloyd, Wayne Shorter, Geri Allen, Gerald Clayton, Justin Brown, Christian Scott, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Walter Smith III.
These collaborations with members of his generation and the influence of his elders pushed Sanders into a newfound way of conceptualizing the bass, music, and life.
