Miho Hazama signs to Edition for her new album with the Danish Radio Big Band.

We are hugely excited and proud to announce the signing of the Japanese Grammy-nominated composer, Miho Hazama for her new album with the Danish Radio Big Band, due for release in Autumn 2021.

As one of the most promising and talented composers/arrangers of her generation, Miho has been lauded in Downbeat as one of “25 for the future”.

Over the last three albums, Miho has developed her signature jazz chamber orchestra “m_unit”, which has led her to work with some of the biggest names in Jazz including Joshua Redman, Lionel Loueke, Stefon Harris, and Gil Goldstein.

In Autumn 2021 she will release her new album with Danish Radio Big Band of which she is currently chief conductor. For Miho, this new album represents a new era as part of a growing and blossoming international career, as she explains:

“This is a significant milestone-moment for me. Since I have a classical music background, my brain sound has been more symphonic. That’s why, writing for big band had always been always challenging. However, the DR Big Band changed my perspective to big band sound. They are so open and enthusiastic to new music, and yet, they can play diverse music with organic flow. After a couple of years working with them, I became to think that whenever I record my original music with a big band for the first time, that has to be with the DR Big Band.

Since making a new album of original music with the DRBB is a new challenge to me, I was hoping to have its own brand for the release. When I talked with the CEO of Edition Records, I was touched to meet someone seeking a vision of our artistic future. I couldn’t be happier. It is a huge honor to join the Edition Records team, and I am extremely excited to work on this album”.

Dave Stapleton, head of Edition, said: “We are very excited to be working with Miho on her new album with the Danish Radio Big Band. Miho is a hugely exciting artist, one that we feel can build a very strong international career as a composer, conductor and arranger. As a Japanese artist, living in New York and working in Europe, she epitomises what an international artist is. To combine that with her creativity, humility and sense of collaboration is an exciting prospect”.
