Saturday, March 14, 2026

One Jazz Radio will present ‘Miles Runs The Weekend Down - 100 years of Miles Davis in 48 hours' over the weekend of 23 & 24 May 2026. Press release attached.

We have received the following press release;

‘Miles runs the Weekend down’
100 years of Miles Davis in 48 hours on One Jazz.

In May 1926, one of the most influential and iconic figures in jazz was born: Miles Davis. In what is set to be one of the most ambitious and expansive radio tributes to the visionary trumpeter ever staged, jazz radio platform One Jazz presents Miles Runs the Weekend Down, 48 hours of non-stop programming celebrating Miles’ legacy and global impact, marking what would have been his 100th birthday.

One Jazz broadcasts a diverse and rich schedule of hosted shows from a worldwide community of passionate jazz tastemakers, 24/7. Some thirty of these will come together to curate two days of shows highlighting a wide range of Miles music and the musicians he has directly influenced.

One Jazz began its celebration in January with Miles and Miles, a 60-minute programme of Miles music broadcast at 6pm (UK) each and every day throughout 2026. Across the weekend of 23 and 24 May, more than 30 programmes will broadcast non-stop, each celebrating a different aspect of Miles’ peerless career.

Uniquely, most hosts spotlight Miles through the signature themes of their own shows: DJ Lubi’s monthly Manteca brings Latin reinterpretations of Miles classics, while Daniel Spicer’s free jazz programme dives into some of his most adventurous ‘out there’ explorations. Caroline Fontanieu, host of One Jazz’s newest show The ECM Records Podcast, traces how the spirit of Miles resonates across the label’s artists and Tony Higgins’s Japanese jazz show explores his close connection with the country and Miles’s place in Japanese jazz culture.

Elsewhere, we discover how Miles shook, yet inspired the 1970’s UK jazz scene, spotlight overlooked gems from across his career and hear exclusive archive interviews with some of his most famous sidemen, and, of course, encounter the man himself. All this and much, much more Miles.

“There is no greater icon in the history of jazz than Miles Davis.  He’s deservedly well known to all music fans because of his classic works like the peerless Kind Of Blue. But beyond that he’s the man who set the pace for re-inventing the music time after time, tapping into the zeitgeist of an era but always progressing the form. One Jazz is the world’s only 24/7 global jazz radio station and we set it up for moments just like this. Moments when we can tear up the schedule and dedicate 48 hours to a single genius. We have hosts from all over the world who specialise in a wide range of genres and all of them are bringing their expertise to this special weekend. It’s going to be a jazz radio event like no other”.  Jez Nelson, Co-Founder, One Jazz
