August Highlights
Hello Green Note Friends,
Long summer evenings, an intimate room filled with music, and artists from around the world bringing stories, traditions and unforgettable performances to our stage… This month’s programme spans everything from Appalachian string bands and Balkan folk to soul, jazz, Americana and West African grooves - and we can’t wait to share it with you.
If you’re drawn to traditional sounds and roots music, this month is overflowing with gems. Green Note favourites DUNAJSKA KAPELYE (Fri 14th Aug) return with their exhilarating blend of authentic Balkan and Gypsy folk, Klezmer, Hot Club jazz and tango – an irresistible night of virtuosic musicianship and infectious energy. GLORI WILDER (Thu 13th Aug) makes her Green Note debut with beautifully intimate, cinematic songwriting from one of the US’s most exciting emerging voices. JANA VARGA & IZZIE DERRY (Wed 19th Aug) unite for an evening of honest, heartfelt songs exploring love, freedom and belonging, before THE THUMPING TOMMYS (Fri 21st Aug) return with their exhilarating mix of Irish and American old-time music. August continues with the very welcome return of MARTHA SPENCER TRIO (Mon 24th Aug), carrying the rich musical traditions of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains with dazzling musicianship, mountain songs and old-time string band magic. Some of these shows are close to selling out so grab your tickets before it’s too late!
Fans of Americana and country won’t want to miss two exceptional Canadian artists. KELLIE LODER (Tue 25th Aug) is a magnetic performer with a gift for deeply personal songwriting, effortless humour and an unforgettable stage presence that has been winning audiences across Canada and beyond. And BOBBY DOVE (Thu 27th Aug) is back, delivering timeless country storytelling with a fresh perspective, paying tribute to the golden age of honky-tonk while creating something entirely their own.
Acclaimed LA outfit DUSTBOWL REVIVAL (Wed 26th Aug @ The Lexington) bring their joyful, genre-defying blend of Americana, folk, soul, funk and brass-fuelled grooves – the kind of band that turns every concert into a celebration. Highly recommended!!
We’re very excited to welcome Guinea’s NATU CAMARA to our stage (Fri 28th Aug)! With her powerful vocals and uplifting fusion of West African rhythms, pop, funk and Afro-rock, expect soaring melodies, infectious grooves and the kind of joyful live performance that leaves audiences on their feet. We can’t wait!
These are just a handful of the incredible artists joining us this August, and with many shows expected to sell out, we’d recommend booking early. We look forward to welcoming you to Green Note for another month of unforgettable live music.
