September Highlights at Green Note - part 2!
Hello music lovers,
As always we have an amazing programme of gigs coming up…. just wanted to share a few highlights with you.
UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS…
We have a couple of special double bills coming up that you might want to check out - two acts for the price of one! 😉
On Wednesday (20th Sept), Country/Americana singer-songwriter JOE MARTIN, who has spent time in Nashville co-writing with industry veterans, will be sharing the bill with hotly-tipped upcoming singer-songwriter ALEX HART, who is frequently seen performing alongside Seth Lakeman and the legendary Martin Barre of Jethro Tull.
“The night I was at the Bluebird Cafe a young Englishman with a rich, resonant voice named Joe Martin seemed primed for bigger things.” New York Times
“Alex Hart is set to make a global impact” The Guardian
...Come catch them in the intimacy of Green Note while you still can!
Next Friday (22nd Sept), we have another sizzling double header, featuring recently formed duo from North Wales, BAU CAT (featuring Jim Davies, formerly of The Goat Roper Rodeo Band), playing their own concoction of Country, Soul, Blues and adding their own flavour. Sharing the bill is Irish-born folk-blues guitar player and singer song-writer, PEPE BELMONTE who is soon to release his third studio album.
Then on 1st October, we have an intimate double bill featuring two emerging Americana singer-songwriters - ‘a star in the making’ IZZIE WALSH, with her own blend of country, bluegrass, folk and Americana, and Norfolk-based Americana singer-songwriter LUCY GRUBB, who you may recognise also from having worked for us behind the Green Note bar!
Other upcoming highlights include celebrated US singer-songwriter ELLIS PAUL, who draws influence from Woodie Guthrie, Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon amongst others (Sun 24th Sept), Austin-based troubadour REBECCA LOEBE, who was recently told by an announcer for the BBC that her voice “should be available free on the National Health!” (Mon 25th Sept), Flamenco dancer extraordinaire Lourdes Fernandez and her band’s stunning RAICES this Sunday (17th Sept), a very special matinée from Sunday Times ‘Breaking Act’ and one of the UK alt-folk’s best kept secrets (and one our firm favourites from our lockdown ‘Virtually Green Note’ series!) SAM BROOKES (Sat 30th Sept), and a group of friends who got together through a love of Old Time Country, Bluegrass and Gospel music and formed a band, THE MOONSHINE SISTERS (Fri 29th Sept).
GREEN NOTE HITS THE ROAD…
On top of that, we’re super excited to have three Green Note favourites who will be playing as part of our Green Note hits the Road series…
On 19th Sept, we welcome the extremely talented DEVON SROULE to our home away from home for the night - The Lexington. For those of you who don’t know her, Devon Sproule is a Canadian/American musician living in rural Virginia. Her music welcomes the magical and the tangible. It celebrates human complication in the language of nature. It is North American music with weirdo roots. Paste Magazine said, “Sproule’s songs are something to behold: Victoria Williams’ playfulness and spunk meeting up with Joni Mitchell’s confessional songwriting chops.” She was a featured artist on our absolutely favourite episode of ‘Virtually Green Note’ (alongside Carsie Blanton and Kris Delmhorst). She is a truly unique and special artist - come check her out, you won’t be disappointed!
On Thurs 28th Sept, we’re back at the beautiful St Matthias Church with another double bill - label buddies, and two of the most respected independent singer-songwriters this country has to offer - KATHRYN WILLIAMS and POLLY PAULUSMA. Kathryn is a Mercury Music Prize nominated singer-songwriter with 16 albums under her belt. Polly has released 10 albums, and recently completed her PhD, folk songs that influenced Angela Carter (**** The Guardian) and her book (Bloomsbury, 2022). This will be a chance to see two experienced and critically acclaimed artists on the same bill… again, highly recommended from us!
And on Saturday (30th Sept) we’ll be at The Slaughtered Lamb presenting the Album Launch for celebrated acoustic folk duo GILMORE & ROBERTS. Nominated three times at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Katriona Gilmore (fiddle, mandolin) and Jamie Roberts (guitar) have brought together some of their most emotionally charged material yet in a new album, Documenting Snapshots. With a show full of songs ‘capable of making you dance, cry and think’ (Folk Radio UK) delivered with their ‘relaxed, banter-laden stage presence’ (Spiral Earth), a performance by Gilmore & Roberts will stay with you long after the final note fades.
