The Invisible listed for Mercury Music Prize

Joining Led Bib on the list of nominees for the 2009 Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize are London based trio The Invisible with their eponymous d?but album.

In the words of Oliver Weindling of Babel Records and Vortex Jazz Club fame the trio make music ?a hair’s breadth from jazz.?

At various times the group’s members David Okumu (guitar, vocals), Tom Herbert (bass) and Leo Taylor (drums) have featured on this site as members of the F-ire Collective and in bands such as Acoustic Ladyland and The Final Terror.

I’ve not actually heard The Invisible album yet, although Tom did promise he’d send me a copy for review. I’m even keener to hear it now in the wake of this news!

In any event The Jazzmann would like to wish the guys the best of luck with the Mercury. It’s great to have two jazz oriented albums on the list and shows the depth of talent we have in this country.
