Weirdshire, Hereford - Programme for September and October 2025.

Sunday, September 07, 2025

Herefordshire promoters Weirdshire have announced their programme for September and October 2025.

Friday 26th September, upstairs at the Jam Factory 40 Widemarsh St Hereford Herefordshire
HR4 9EP
We’ve got our good friend Ben McElroy coming again - he is going from strength to strength and has been working on all kinds of fascinating projects. His new album Elkwort is out now and available from all good record shops and he’ll have them with him. Here’s a clip of Ben getting up to no good in the woods: Widdershins and Deosil

And here’s Ben playing live: Metronome Folk Session

And as though that itself wouldn’t already be a fantastic evening, we also have the artist known as U, presenting his new album which is coming out on Lex Records in October: Archenfield. This is the result of a 10 year research project based on Herefordshire and the Forest of Dean, and is an incredible piece of multi-media art. It’s well worth a quick look at his page on the Lex website which is here

And to make it even easier - here’s a direct link to one of his short films

Honestly, I don’t how we’re going to get all this into the little room at the Jam Factory. My advice is to buy ahead, and arrive early.

Tuesday 30th September, De Koffie Pot
Bob Drake is coming to Hereford - this is an EVENT, and everyone should ignore the fact that it is a school night and be there, rather than regret their poor judgement later…. Where to begin to describe Bob’s musical life? Born and raised in the American Midwest, and now living in the South of France, he has been playing a lot of instruments with - and recording - all sorts of, bands since the early 1970’s. He was an important part of Denver’s underground music scene from 1978-1989. In the early 1990’s in Los Angeles, he engineered for a wide variety of artists from Ice Cube to Shirley MacLaine. After moving to Europe he joined fellow expatriate Dave Kerman to become part of the 5UU’s. In 1994 he started making a series of extraordinary solo albums – of which his latest, L’Isola dei Lupi is the tenth. He lives at his studio in Southern France, where he has engineered and mastered an awful lot of albums. He is also known for his definitive re-mastering of classic albums by Art Bears, Cassiber, Henry Cow and others. Expect individual, avant garde, but always melodic tales of anthropomorphic animals, hauntings, geology, holy wells, astronomy…
Here’s some film of Bob

And we have some special plans for a local artist for this one too, can’t be revealed yet though…

8th October, also at De Koffie Pot
Another precious opportunity - this one is a new artist, based in Edinburgh, but originally from Minneapolis - Faith Elliot. They have an absolutely sublime album out this year on the Lost Map record label, which I’ve found hard to stop listening to ever since it came out. Rather than me wittering on any more - go take a look at this lovely video.

Or this brilliant film of Faith playing

And, honestly I can’t believe we’re able to bring all this wonderful stuff to you, but the same show will also feature MG Boulter - stalwart of the Southend on Sea scene, with a long association with the Felice Brothers, playing mandolin and lap steel. His song-writing brings to life the characters found in seaside towns such as his own, and explore the psychogeography of the coastal landscape. Andy Kershaw described him as “...a major talent. One of the most important songwriters, I think, to come out in the last twenty years”.
Here’s MG singing a song to whet your appetite.
