Hello all you connoisseurs of culture and lovers of live music – greetings from the 606 in Chelsea, known for presenting the best jazz, soul, Latin, groove, R&B & blues musicians in the UK bar none.
Following on from our previous announcement of our 2025 EFG London Jazz Festival programme please find below information about our November lineup in all its glorious entirety!

Sat 1st 9:00pm RILEY STONE-LONERGAN FT ALEX GARNETT
The multi-award-winning saxophonist Riley Stone-Lonergan is widely regarded as one of the leading lights of his generation. Named a Yamaha Jazz Scholar in 2011 his work with the highly regarded, generation-spanning QOW Trio was described by BBC Music Magazine as “a stunning achievement”. Tonight Riley‘s Special Guest is one of the UK’s sax greats, his good friend and mentor Alex Garnett (Wynton Marsalis, Van Morrison). Together, they pay tribute to their tenor sax heroes, with material inspired by John Coltrane, Joe Henderson and Sonny Rollins. Riley says that improvisation ‘brings him the most joy’ and so expect a night of exciting and swinging music.

Sun 2nd 1:30pm 606 GOSPEL Present the IDMC CHOIR Directed by JOHN FISHER
Today we are presenting one of the longest established gospel choirs in Europe, the brilliant 15-piece Gospel ensemble IDMC and their director John Fisher, celebrating more than 30 years of making music. A fabulous and well-respected choir, they have performed for both Luciano Pavarotti’s and Jamelia’s weddings and have twice been guests at The Royal Albert Hall. This afternoon they will be presenting an explosive and soulful programme of original songs along with gospel and soul-filled classics. Children more than welcome!

Mon 3rd 8:00pm PHIL MULFORD’S THUNDERTHUMBS
Led by bassist Phil Mulford, join us to celebrate great Soul and Funk songs with “Thunderthumbs”, the 10-piece band inspired by the great US bass player Louis Johnson. The set runs from Louis’ time with Billy Preston through to his own band The Brothers Johnson and the Quincy Jones hits on which he played. The gig features 3 brilliant singers, Gina Foster (Swing Out Sister), Debbie Bracknell (Shakatak) & Simon Foster (Flying Pickets), a deeply grooving rhythm section and powerhouse horns.

Describing their music as “a sonic tapestry, woven through energetic groove & threads of intricately crafted melody” Malika Collective is a dynamic London-based ensemble inspired by genres from blues to rock, Afrobeat, soul, electronic and dance music. The core of the band, George Risk-guitar, Nim Sadot-bass, Henry Lawry-keys, Salim Akki-drums and Greg Sinclair-tenor sax/flute have blended the timeless elements of jazz improvisation with the electronic sounds of synths & effects for a distinctive & hip mashup of old and new, as heard on their various releases. With multiple shows at venues around London their music adeptly captures the feel and energy of the current London scene and we’re excited to feature them here at the 606 for the first time!
Wed 5th 8:00pm TIM WHITEHEAD
Saxophonist Tim Whitehead is renowned throughout the UK, Europe and USA as a remarkable performer/composer. In the 70’s he toured with Ian Carr’s “Nucleus”, winning the Young Jazz Musician of the Year Award. In the 80’s he was a member of the groundbreaking band Loose Tubes, in the 90’s he won the Andrew Milne Award for Jazz and in the 00’s was the first ever musician to be made Artist in Residence at Tate Britain. His muscular, fluent and highly melodic playing commands considerable respect throughout the scene. Tonight he will be teaming up with the superb pianist David Gordon and his trio to perform a mix of his and David’s originals, including the appropriately named (check the date…) “The Burning of the Houses Of Parliament” (from Tim’s EFG London Jazz Festival commission “Turner and the Thames”) along with some choice jazz standards.

Thu 6th 8:00pm JOHN CRAWFORD
John Crawford is one of the finest Latin/Jazz pianists in the UK, with an unerring musicality and impressive technique. He includes work with the likes of Latin legend Airto Moreira and is widely regarded as one of this country’s leading exponents of Spanish music. Tonight John and his band will be featuring music from his latest album “Room For Dancing”, a mix of his own brilliant tunes and exciting and innovative arrangements of some of his favourite compositions from musical friends and influences. As on the album, the band features the fantastic Uruguayan guitarist Guille Hill.

Born and raised in Brixton, singer and harmonica player Errol Linton got his first break 30 years ago when heard by a BBC producer busking and has been steadily building his reputation as a world-class blues talent ever since. He was nominated for ‘Best Blues Act’ in the 2019 Jazz FM Awards, featured alongside Big Bill Broonzy in BBC 2’s ‘Two Generations of the Blues’ and championed by radio presenters John Peel, Robert Elms, Paul Jones, & Cerys Matthews. Accompanied by his quintet this is home grown blues at its best.

Winner of the Worshipful Company of Musicians’ ‘Young Musician of the Year’ award along with MOBO and Parliamentary Jazz Awards as a member of the internationally acclaimed ‘Empirical’, drummer Shane Forbes is without question one of the most in demand musicians in the UK. Tonight he has put together a remarkable band featuring, from Empirical, the award-winning Nathaniel Facey-sax and Tom Farmer-bass alongside the brilliant Ivo Neame-piano (Phronesis, Kairos 4tet) performing music that will be a combination of old and new original compositions by the band. The Caribbean Island Project is an exciting group put together and fronted by the multi-talented singer Shireen Francis. Integrating jazz harmonies with the Afro-Caribbean/Brazilian rhythms of Reggae, Calypso and Samba, the band create an unusual but highly accessible musical hybrid. Featuring Dominic Grant-guitar, Gunther Kurmayr-piano, Neville Malcolm-bass & Kenrick Rowe-drums this is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

Julie Dexter is an award-winning singer, songwriter and producer. UK-born but resident in the US since the late ‘90’s she lists an eclectic array of influences, including Nancy Wilson, Abbey Lincoln, Bob Marley and Sade. Her numerous recordings featuring her powerful yet refined vocals have been widely praised, with her hit single “Ketch A Vibe” featured in national radio ads for Democratic Presidential Candidate Senator Barack Obama (now, that’s some endorsement)! Highly respected in the USA in 2022 Julie was honoured by the US organisation “Black Women in Jazz & the Arts” with their ‘Afro-Caribbean Soul of Jazz Award’. This evening Julie will be performing a mix of her originals, Jazz standards and her own arrangements of some popular songs in what she describes as “a rollercoaster of Jazz, Soul, Straight-ahead Jazz and a little infusion of reggae as a homage to my Caribbean roots”. Mon 10th 8:00pm TOBAGO & D’LIME: “THE KAISO SESSIONS”
Tobago and D’Lime were put together by Damon Albarn (Blur) for the Paddington Bear films and their joyful renditions of the calypso songs in the movie were so warmly received they have since gone on to perform at venues around the UK. Often the group features singer Tobago Crusoe, but tonight they will be highlighting the fantastic band, with vocals from the brilliant guitarist/singer Tim Cansfield. Born and raised in Trinidad, Tim’s cv is vast, including many years working with the Bee Gees and then Barry Gibb as well as almost 20 years with Swing Out Sister. Other artists he has been featured with include Elton John, Chaka Khan, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston and Seal! The rest of the lineup includes 606 regulars Mark Cherrie-steel pan, Felix Ruiz-keyboards/vocals, Curtis Ruiz-bass/vocals and Richard Bailey (Jeff Beck, Incognito)-drums. Kaiso, incidentally, is a musical genre from Trinidad and Tobago that evolved from African roots and is the predecessor to calypso music!

American-born saxophonist Dan Reinstein first began playing at the old 606 Club when a medical student in the 1980’s. He returned to the US in the early 90s to become one of the world’s leading laser eye surgeons (he’s now Professor Reinstein), but when he returned to London, it was great to hear his fluent, classic hard-bop, muscular sax playing again and the rest, as they say, is history. Dan & his quartet have performed here for the last 20+ years and still going strong!

Wed 12th 8:00pm DJANGADA TRIO
Named after a fishing boat found in Bahia in the north-east of Brazil, the home of Afro-Brazilian rhythms, the piano trio Djangada take this classic sound as a starting point and bring it into the 21st century. Adding a funkier take on the traditional Brazilian rhythms, they are inspired by the jazz trio aesthetic but at the same time retain the energetic party atmosphere of the original style. The end result is a mix of Afro-Brazilian grooves, funky basslines and a strong improvisational flair, making the band’s shows exciting and entertaining. The three members, Sam Watts-piano, Matheus Nova-bass & Marcinho Pereira-drums are all established musicians in their own right, with performances at the likes of the Royal Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall, Ronnie Scott’s and the Montreal, London, Paris, Montreux and North Sea Jazz Festivals.

Thu 13th 8:00pm **606 CLUB SPECIAL** CLARK TRACEY PRESENTS: “UNDER MILK WOOD” – THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY
Back in 1965 iconic UK pianist Stan Tracey CBE released the seminal recording “Under Milk Wood”, an homage to Dylan Thomas’s remarkable play. The compositions were inspired and the quartet, which featured leading musicians of the time including the world class Bobby Wellins on sax, was outstanding. The album was received with international acclaim, previously unknown for a British jazz recording. Reissued a further six times over the years, it has won numerous awards for best album/best music etc upon each reissue. Soon after its original release, Stan added narrators to read extracts from the Dylan Thomas play as part of the performance and the show has been presented in this way ever since. Tonight we are celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the original album with a band featuring a saxophonist who worked with Stan’s various groups for many years, the legendary Art Themen. Also featured will be the terrific Gareth Williams-piano, and another stalwart of Stan’s latter day ensembles, Andrew Cleyndert-bass. The quartet is led from the drum chair by Stan’s son, Clark Tracey BEM, who worked in Stan’s various groups for over 35 years. For this special tribute concert the narrators will be Ben Tracey (Clark’s son) and actress/singer Sharon Myfanwy White. Remarkable music performed by the very best in the UK.

A terrific singer in the Soul/R&B tradition Imaani includes work with the likes of Gloria Gaynor, Carleen Anderson and Beverley Knight, but she is probably best known for 20+ years as one of the featured singers with the iconic band “Incognito”. Undoubtedly one of the finest Soul singers in Europe this is a rare chance to hear this giant of the UK Soul scene with her brilliant band featuring her Special Guest, US vocalist Angelo Starr. Angelo came over to the UK in the mid 2000’s to work as MD/guitarist for his older brother Edwin Starr (War)…and never left. With performance credits that include Ronnie Jordan, Alexander O’Neal, Chaka Khan & Lemar, Angelo has established himself as an artist of the highest calibre.

The 606 Club has always looked to the future generations of musicians and this afternoon we are pleased to welcome two institutions particularly close to the 606 Club who will be jointly presenting their programme “Together We Go Forward”. As they say: “the partnering of both academies helps secure the shared enrichment and creation of more well-rounded young musicians”. The music will be a mix of jazz standards and if you want to check out the next generation of jazz musicians, this is the gig to be at!

Highly acclaimed singer Vimala Rowe’s enthralling style has been described as a mix of “jazz sophistication and soulful passion with a hint of Indian exoticism”. Tonight Vimala will be performing “Find Your World”, her new programme of original music from her eclectic influences of Jazz, Blues, African and Indian folk to Indie and Soul. Vimala describes the show as “Music, artists and poetry from Billie Holiday to William Blake…helped me navigate my sometimes challenging and often joyful experiences and are the cornerstones to the show”. Tonight we present the joyous, rhythmic delights of classic Brazilian MPB with the 606 Club’s outstanding band “Samara” featuring the brilliant Brazilian vocalist Carolina Lelis, the powerful piano of Neil Angilley, the swinging flute of the 606 Club’s “Gov’nor” Steve Rubie and their Special Guest, the multiple Award-winning saxophonist Denys Baptiste (Courtney Pine). Recipient of the Parliamentary Jazz Award for Best Jazz Ensemble and the British Jazz Award for ‘Best Small Group’ Nigel Price is a highly skilled guitarist as well as an accomplished composer whose swinging bebop approach combined with flawless control is a delight. Tonight he will be joined by the Award-winning Canadian guitar legend Lorne Lofsky, an internationally recognized jazz guitarist who has performed with a remarkable number of iconic jazz musicians, including Chet Baker, Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Holland and Oscar Peterson. This promises to be a special night from two of the finest jazz guitarists on the international scene.

A multi-award-winning pianist Gwilym Simcock has carved out a career as one of the most gifted pianists and imaginative composers on the European scene. Hailed as ‘exceptional’, ‘brilliant’ and ‘dazzling’ he won the Perrier, BBC Jazz and British Jazz Rising Star Awards, “Best Band” and “Jazz Musician of the Year” at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards and his album “Good Days at Schloss Elmau” won the 2011 Barclaycard Mercury Prize for ‘Album of the Year’. He has worked with the cream of international jazz artists including five years touring and recording with U.S. guitar legend Pat Metheny. Rightly considered to be one of the most exciting musicians to have emerged from the UK tonight he will be appearing with long-time musical associates Conor Chaplin-bass & James Maddren-drums. Although his fluent and thoughtful playing is rooted in the classic jazz genres, growing up in South London and learning from the Kinetika Bloco and the Jazz Warriors families, saxophonist Kaidi Akinnibi has always had a multi-faceted outlook on music. The eclectic variety of artists he works and writes with include the likes of Tom Misch, Black Midi, Jason Moran & the Mercury Prize-winning Ezra Collective. Tonight Kaidi will be performing a first set of music from the soundtrack of the short film “All my Blues” and album of the same name that he wrote with Hal Howe, alongside a second set of choice jazz standards. A magnetic presence on London’s vibrant jazz scene this gig highlights Kaidi’s impressive jazz credentials

Voted one of the ‘Hottest Bass Players in the World’ by Bass Player magazine, Shez Raja is an electrifying performer whose fusion of Indo-jazz, funk and groove has propelled him to the forefront of the UK jazz scene. His albums ‘Journey to Shambhala’ and ‘Gurutopia’ have earned him universal critical acclaim and with his latest highly praised album “Spellbound” Shez brings this exciting new music to the 606. Expect a thrilling fusion of East and West, tradition and innovation, groove and mysticism. Tonight Shez has invited two special guests, iconic guitar maestro John Etheridge (Soft Machine, Stéphane Grappelli) and electrifying trombone innovator and multi-award-winning bandleader Dennis Rollins (Maceo Parker, Badbone & Co). Sat 22nd 9:00pm ALEC HARPER “A NIGHT OF ELLINGTON” WITH SPECIAL GUEST: PETE HORSFALL
Alec Harper has established himself as one of the leading tenor saxophonists of his generation. Formerly a member of the popular UK outfit Kansas Smittys he has worked and recorded with Jamie Cullum, toured the globe with Tom Misch, Soft Cell and WDR Big Band and appeared at numerous international festivals including North Sea, Montreux & C6 Festival (Sao Paolo). Tonight he has put together a brilliant band featuring Special Guest: Pete Horsfall-trumpet who has made numerous international appearances including a week in New York City, had his album, ‘Nighthawks’ acclaimed by the Guardian as ‘ravishing’ and worked with artists as varied as DJ Shadow, Kurt Elling & Jamie Cullum. The programme will be carefully curated from Duke Ellington’s vast repertoire, with the emphasis firmly on improvisation and arranging in the moment. We have asked back not one but three of our favourite singers to perform both separately and together in what has proven to be a delightful, fun-filled, unique afternoon of great music. Rachel Sutton is a consummate artist whose winning persona will charm any audience. Inspired by the likes of Nina Simone and Billie Holiday Jo Harrop is a multi-Award-winner whose star is very much in the ascendancy and Eileen Hunter is not only a wonderful vocalist with a lovely, breathy delivery but also a highly accomplished pianist. As Eileen said, “Really looking forward to this!”, as are we all!

Delivering an authentic take on a highly infectious blend of blues, gospel, street and jazz that is uniquely New Orleans, he has a stellar list of international festivals, radio and TV appearances to his name with fans ranging from Hugh Laurie to Jamie Cullum. Jim Mullen is widely regarded as one of the finest jazz guitarists in Europe! Celebrating his 80th birthday tonight, he’s received numerous awards, including an Honorary Parliamentary Jazz Award in 2017. A master of touch, tone and swing he has long been hailed as “a true giant of British jazz guitar,” with universal praise for his “unmistakable voice” and “effortless fluency.” He made his name playing with seminal groups through the 70’s and 80’s, including his own highly acclaimed band “Morrissey-Mullen” as well as work with a host of high-profile artists. Joining him for this milestone gig will be some of his long-standing musical partners, the brilliant pianist Gareth Williams, powerhouse bassist Laurence Cottle and the ever-grooving drummer Tristan Mailliot. A heartfelt celebration filled with great music, warm memories, and plenty of birthday spirit, watch out for a host of special guests, including the likes of Claire Martin, Zoe Francis & Hamish Stuart as they join us to honour one of the UK’s most influential and beloved jazz musicians.

A talented composer as well as performer, the award-winning Hungarian pianist Albert Horvath is considered to be one of the leading musicians of his generation. While still a student he took first place in the group awards of the National Dezső Lakatos Ablakos Jazz Competition followed, in 2020, by the Hungarian Jazz Federation’s Young Jazz Musician of the Year Award. Most recently he was awarded a Special Jury Prize at this year’s MUPA Jazz Showcase. Accompanied by a UK rhythm section plus Special Guest this promises to be a wonderful night of impressive modern jazz piano playing.

Bruce Adams has been a stalwart of the UK jazz scene for almost 50 years and is widely regarded as one of the finest mainstream cornet/trumpet players in Europe. For this show he’ll be joined by the iconic saxophonist, Art Themen. An exciting, playful and inventive saxophonist described by The Observer as “One of the tiny handful of undeniably perfect jazz musicians”, Art has been a leading light of the British jazz scene for over 50 years. A terrific, swinging jazz gig from two masters.

This quintet features the powerhouse frontline of trumpeter Quentin Collins (Kyle Eastwood), the highly regarded Vasilis Xenopoulos (Shez Raja) on sax and the golden touch of Rob Barron (Al Jarreau, Paloma Faith) on piano. The band presents a sound that respects the straight-ahead tradition of the hard-bop era whilst also bringing it up to date for today’s audience. Expect tight swinging grooves from some of the best players around.

It’s fair to say that after 60 years of performing at the highest level, Elaine Delmar is very much Jazz “Royalty”. From work at 16 with her father, the famous Leslie “Jiver” Hutchinson, through leading roles in musicals in London and Broadway to a successful recording career Elaine has established herself as an international artist of talent, poise and grace and in 2013, she received the APPJAG Special Award in recognition of her contribution to the UK music scene. Appearing this afternoon with the wonderful Barry Green-piano Elaine will be performing music from her latest album “Speak Low” along with a programme of swinging American Songbook standards

Mary Pearce is the “Queen” of studio and backing vocals. You may not know her name, but you will certainly have heard her powerful, soulful vocals with the likes of Lionel Ritchie, Chaka Khan, Courtney Pine and Beverley Knight. As well as more than 20 years as a studio singer Mary has also featured as lead vocalist on a number of “Groove” and Dance hits and more recently has been touring with pop icon Boy George as an integral part of his (excellent) band. Really impressive Groove gig, this.
