Saxophonist, composer, improviser and bandleader Cath Roberts has forwarded her latest newsletter, including details of recordings newly available on Bandcamp.

Cath Roberts writes;

The newsletter of saxophone player Cath Roberts

Hello
Well, with live performances still on hold there isn’t a massive amount to report in this season’s newsletter, but here’s a roundup of a few things I’m involved in online. And the courgette flowers are out! As usual you can keep up with what goes on between these emails by checking in on my website and/or following me on Twitter.

Live recordings update and another Bandcamp Friday…

Since the last newsletter I’ve been working on my live recordings Bandcamp site, and there are now eight sets up there. For this week’s Bandcamp Friday (today!) I’ve published two new ones; a trio with Andrew Lisle and Seth Bennett from LUME in 2015, and a duo with Benedict Taylor (full length set this time) from Flim Flam in 2018. The trio only played together once, and listening back to this recording has made us want to do more when it’s possible to meet and play together again. The set with Benedict was the only time we’ve shared the bill with another baritone saxophone and viola duo….of course, Alan Wilkinson and Ivor Kallin…a great night.

If you’re able to buy music, today is a good day to do it while Bandcamp waive their revenue share once again to support artists during the pandemic. The income from my live sets is split between the players, so if you enjoy the music do feel free to ‘pay on the door’ by naming your price for a download. And anything from the Sloth Racket Bandcamp site will go towards helping us to record and tour again once these things become possible. In these uncertain times, we appreciate the support!

Duo release with Alex Bonney on oem
A new release! Coming out next week on Martin Clarke’s label oem is a duo set from me and Alex Bonney. Martin recorded this in February at Hundred Years Gallery - in what seems like another world. Great to have it out there! Release day is 8th July, and there’s a nice review from A Jazz Noise to give you an idea of the vibe…

Gillian Whiteley Isolation Improv drawing/video
And finally, I’m part of a nice project by the Sheffield artist Gillian Whiteley (aka Bricolage Kitchen), who has been doing a series of videos in lockdown called ‘Isolation Improv Drawings’. Gillian asks improvisers to send her a recording of them playing at home, then films herself responding to the improvisation in the form of a charcoal drawing. Check out her drawing to my solo bari improv, and loads of other improvisers too, over on her website.

That’s it for now I think. I’ll be back with another newsletter in the Autumn. Hope everyone is doing okay, and take care!
