Nov 7th - George Trebar’s ‘Nighthawks’
Nighthawks features acclaimed musicians Sam Braysher (alto sax), Roy Hilton (piano), and Joe Edwards (drums). Sam is a multi-award-winning saxophonist, Roy has performed with legends like Sonny Stitt and Buddy Greco, and Joe is a sought-after drummer on the south coast jazz scene. George Trebar’s music reimagines classic film scores from Michel Legrand, Burt Bacharach, and Elmer Bernstein, with original arrangements by George. Their debut album Pages and Frames, exploring the links between cinema, literature, and jazz, is out on Rubicon in November 2025.
Nov 14th - The Andy Mear’s Octet
Featuring a stellar lineup of UK talent, Andy’s Octet showcases his intricately crafted arrangements and original compositions. Deeply rooted in the jazz tradition, the repertoire pays tribute to iconic figures such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Gil Evans, Sonny Rollins, Lee Konitz, and Horace Silver. The set also celebrates a rich variety of global rhythms—from the samba and bossa nova of South America to the township grooves of Africa and the vibrant calypsos of the Caribbean. The Octet includes: Andy with Damian Cook and Mike Hope (saxes) Chris Coull (trumpet), Nick Mills (trombone), James Treweek (piano), Stuart Barker (bass), and Joe Edwards (drums).
Nov 21st Sean Fyfe
One of London’s most in-demand pianists, Sean brings a compelling blend of virtuosity and elegance to the stage. Deeply rooted in the hard-bop tradition, his playing draws inspiration from jazz greats like Cedar Walton, Bill Evans, Bobby Timmons, and Wynton Kelly. With a distinctive voice both at the keyboard and as a composer, Sean’s style is both timeless and fresh. This special performance features music from his latest album Follow-Up, recorded in the UK with his dynamic quartet: Dave O’Higgins (tenor sax), Matt Fishwick (drums), and Luke Fowler (bass) plus Chris Coull (trumpet).
Nov 28th Geoff Simkins
“Long regarded as a master improviser” (Jazz News UK), Geoff reunites with acclaimed guitarist Tom Ollendorff, praised by The Guardian for his “meticulous eloquence.” Their musical partnership began at the Royal Welsh College of Music, where Tom studied under Geoff, and has flourished ever since. For this special performance, they explore the music of favourite composers including Kenny Wheeler, Lee Konitz, and Steve Swallow. They are joined by two rising stars on the UK jazz scene: Ewan Hastings (bass) and Angus Bishop (drums) plus Chris Coull (trumpet)
Dec 5th Simon Savage / Roy Hilton quintet
This quintet have long been a regular fixture at ‘The Speakeasy Jazz Club’ brining the authentic sounds of 50’s bebop to the fore with material influenced by some of the pioneers of the music such as Horace Silver, Dexter Gordon and Kenny Dorham. More recently the group have recorded a CD focusing on the original compositions of local pianist and UK jazz legend, Roy Hilton. Dec 12th Tony Kofi
We’re delighted to welcome back the incredible Tony Kofi for his third appearance in as many years at St Andrews — a firm favourite for good reason. With a tone steeped in the spirit of classic bebop, Tony’s alto saxophone captures the raw energy and innovation of modern jazz’s early trailblazers. This special night pays tribute to the legendary Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker, Bud Powell, Dizzy Gillespie and more — brought to life by a swinging quintet featuring Tony Kofi (alto sax), Chris Coull (trumpet), Tim Wells (piano), Paul Whitten (bass), and Joe Edwards (drums). Expect fiery solos, tight arrangements, and a night steeped in the timeless language of bebop.
Dec 19th Christmas Special – Mafia Big Band with special guest, Sara Oschlag
In what has become a cherished St Andrew’s tradition, we once again ring in the festive season with a joyful evening of swing, seasonal cheer, and perhaps a carol or two with a jazzy twist! Expect a warm, welcoming atmosphere with mince pies and mulled wine served to get everyone in the holiday spirit.
This end-of-year celebration is hosted by trumpeter Chris Coull, joined by the soulful vocals of Sara Oschlag and the powerhouse sound of the 16-piece Brighton Mafia Big Band. A perfect way to wrap up the concert year — we hope you and your loved ones can join us for this sparkling musical finale.
