Jazz at The Lescar gigs Autumn 2026

Please find below a list of our gigs in September - October and into Nov/Dec

16th September / Angle Shades
An inventive and exploratory piano trio comprising three of most in-demand players on the Manchester creative scene, Richard Jones (piano), Joshua Cavanagh-Brierley (bass), and Johnny Hunter (drums). Angle Shades explore the cracks between composition and improvisation, with focussed yet unpredictable and exciting music that’s dynamic, spontaneous and searching; a piano trio with a truly distinctive identity, visiting us following the release of their second album on Efpi records ‘Twirler’.

23rd September / J.A.M. String Collective
A mix of adventurous jazz improvisation, contemporary classical and grooves, J.A.M. String Collective bring a distinctive sound to the improvisational string world. Jan Halen (violin), Julia dos Reis (viola) and Miranda Lewis-Brown (cello) will be performing music from their acclaimed debut album ‘She Looks Up at the Trees’, beautiful and atmospheric music that occupies a fluid space between jazz and contemporary string sound worlds, and with a strong thread of improvisation running through it. Dramatic and virtuosic melodies and expansive cinematic improvisations, punctuated by a rich percussive palette of looped beats.

30th September / in//motion
Spellbinding music from one of the most exciting bands emerging on the UK scene right now, joining us as they release their debut album, and led by one of the most distinctive saxophonists around, Luke Chakrabarti, in//motion effortlessly mix contemporary jazz improvisation with the sounds of folk and post-rock, and influences ranging from Brian Blade’s fellowship band to Godspeed You! Black Emperor. A band of five distinctive musical voices Luke Chakrabarti (saxophone), Julien Durand (guitar), Daniel Kemshell (guitar), Josh Vadiveloo (bass), Matt Holmes (drums) create a powerful sound with personal expression at it’s heart and strong sense of collective communication.

7th October / Rory Green
Beautiful atmospheric music full of layered sounds and infectious rhythms;  Ghanaian-English guitarist, composer and producer Rory Green (classical guitar/electronics) joins us following appearances at jazz festivals in Lancaster and Manchester. Drawing inspiration from his mixed heritage background he creates complex yet meditative and subtly emotive soundscapes, artfully combining sensitively played acoustic instruments with electronic synthesis. Joining Rory are Zac Hemming (drums/percussion) and Rachael Green (soprano saxophone). Deeply personal yet expansive music.

SUNDAY 11th October at Samuel Worth Chapel 6.30pm / Ruth Goller’s Skylla + Manon McCoy & Alice Brookes
Five innovative improvising musicians, towering new sounds.
With an emotional mix of folk-inspired songs and heavy improvisation, Skylla are led by bass player/vocalist Ruth Goller (Acoustic Ladyland, Laura Jurd) with British electronic artist/drummer Will Glaser (Soweto Kinch, Kit Downes), and Irish Viola player Ultan O’Brien (Martin Green (Lau), Laura Jurd). Skylla’s second album ‘Skyllumina’ was released on Chicago’s International Anthem label; this trio is an evolution of that sound; siren-like vocals and viola melodies meet heavy grooves; and a trio treading an utterly unique path.
Electronics/sound artist Manon McCoy (balo, Emergence Collective, Stuart McCallum) and vocalist/composer Alice Brookes’ debut album ‘objects aligned out of time’ was released on Elektramusic Berlin; a project that combines voice, electronics, found sounds and objects. Kaleidoscopic and mesmerising, immersive and vast improvisations continuously evolve, channelled, warped and layered with their own voices; haunting and entirely original.
