Chris Bye, Jazz North CEO, says:
“Jazz North is proud to announce the latest round of New Northern promoters. This programme continues to provide support to those keeping grassroots music alive.
Jazz North stands alongside the vital people who facilitate our local scenes, promote new talent and make up an essential part of the northern night time economy.”

The 25/26 New Northern recipients will be using their bursaries in a range of ways to promote emerging talent across the north of England.

Brume
Brume is proud to use this bursary to connect with more jazz musicians across the north west and support the careers of those who are underrepresented or face additional barriers in Manchester and beyond.

Hulljazz
Support from New Northern will help Hulljazz secure opportunities for local and regional musicians alongside touring British and overseas artists seeking additional dates in the Yorkshire region.

Lancaster Jazz Festival
The New Northern bursary will enable Lancaster Jazz Festival to select two emerging bands from their open call to play a gig at partner venue The Gregson Centre showcasing the local jazz scene.

North East Music Opportunities CIC
North East Music Opportunities CIC are collaborating with Sunderland Music City and The Fire Station music venue to create a new regional Jazz Festival in Sunderland. Their bursary will be used to support diverse artists performing Music of Black Origin.

Settle Victoria Hall
Settle Victoria Hall will use their bursary to support a new generation of artists through a concert series designed to give fresh talent a footing on the professional ladder and providing new listening experiences for their rural Dales audience.

Stockport Jazz
Stockport Jazz supports new and established jazz musicians through the promotion of weekly gigs held at the Moor Club. It is delighted to be able to assist the development of emerging jazz talent from the North of England with support from New Northern and Jazz North.

The Badness Centre
Badness Centre, realised by Nat Sharp, is an accessible, immersive rebellion against consumerist wellness, celebrating chaotic-ecological connection. Showcasing emerging Northern artists in experimental jazz, electronic, and avant-garde music, it combines concerts and sensory-rich installations in rural spaces like Rochdale and Todmorden, creating fully accessible events informed by local disability action groups.

Nanette Brimble (YardFest, Saltaire), Recipient of 24/25 New Northern bursary says:
“New Northern is a fantastic scheme that gave me the chance to reach out to a wider range of artists. We were able to present a month of emerging artists which we couldn’t have done without the support from Jazz North. We were all (bands, venue, audiences and me) delighted with the results.”
