EVENTS IN JUNE


03/06/17 - Fleet Festival workshops - £Free
Come down to MAP and experience the free workshops provided the Fleet Festival.
Between 2-3pm Channel your inner Elton with Kentish Town musician Andy Kyte who will facilitate a songwriting workshop. Bring a song you are working on, or come to try and write a new one. All ages are welcome and humming encouraged!
Then between 3-4pm Kentish Town percussion instructor Rebecca McChrystal will hold a percussion workshop. All ages welcome to come try some drumming!


03/06/17 - ALEXANDER DUBOVOY - Doors 8pm - £10 Entry
MAP Studio Cafe is proud to announce The London debut of up-and-coming pianist Alexander Dubovoy, who recently moved to the UK from New York. He will play songs from his new EP Portraits Drawn without You, which was recorded with 11-time Grammy-Award-winning recording engineer Jack Renner. He is joined by London-based bassist Inga Eichler and drummer Will Edwards to form a unique and dynamic trio of piano, bass, and drums. This is a new trio features a brand-new repertoire which will be highly interactive and improvisatory.


04/06/17 - Alma Street Festival - 12 - 7pm - £ Free Entry
Presented by the Inkerman Area Residents Association, picturesque Alma Street and surrounding roads will be closed to traffic to allow a summer celebration of all the good things about living in Kentish Town. The Fair is not run for profit and is free to attend featuring Street food, art, crafts, local beers, games, family activities, grand raffle, the best of local talent performing music, song, dance on three separate stages. A collaboration between the community, local charities and local business.


08/06/17 - DAMON BROWN’S SPEAKEASY THURSDAYS - Doors 8pm - £10 Entry
Trumpeter Damon Brown presents his new Thursday night session playing and singing classic jazz and blues with a touch of ska and honky tonk thrown into the mix. Joined by Adam King on double bass and Leon Greening on piano. With special guests and sitters in the second set. (Also playing on 22nd)


09/06/17 - Cafe Sessions: Stuart Rose - 12pm in the cafe - £ Free entry
Evocative, melodic, poetic, sometimes exotic, is the music created by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Stuart Rose; who creates a wondrous mix of Contemporary Folk, Jazz Blues and World Music, beautiful songs and sensational instrumentals. With “warm smoky” vocals, guitars, bouzouki, flutes and loops, Stuart’s original and improvisational style creates uniquely soulful music.


11/06/17 - Footprints - Doors 8pm - £10 Entry
Footprints is an informal group of musicians who come together, from different musical backgrounds and experiences, to share their enjoyment of playing great and sometimes neglected tunes from the jazz repertoire. For theirevening at MAP, the quintet will consist of saxes, piano, bass and drums will perform a varied and lively set-list of about fifteen jazz pieces at MAP.


17/06/17 - Sara Paco - Doors 8pm - £TBC
Sara Paco‘s deep voice will take you back in time to the early 30’s in America, to the years of The Great Depression when Bessie Smith sung “Nobody knows you when you’re down and out” Let yourself be touched by this soulful singer, songwriter and guitarist and dive into the depths of blues, soul and jazz music.


25/06/16 - UNTAMED THINKERS: Innocence - 2pm start - Free Entry
Come along and sharpen your intellect on concepts that lie outside of general chit-chat. Hosted by LaToyah Gill (The Untamed Artist), in a relaxed cafe atmosphere the forum will comprise of presentations and discussions which focussing on the theme of IDENTITY.  Discussions will be conducted openly and freely, devoid of dogmatism. Guests are invited/encouraged to bring materials (essays, literature, papers, poetry etc) to share and aid the discussions.


All in addition to our regular recurring events:

Every Friday is REGGAE NIGHT, a free entry event where DJ’s ROOTS TING and LEPKE spin their encyclopaedic library of classic reggae dubplates.

On Wednesday’s we have CHESS CLUB a great way of meeting new local people while brushing up your chess skills! All ages and skill levels welcome starting at 4:30.
Then afterwards starting at 7pm is our CINEMA NIGHT, where you can enjoy great films (we’ve screened Blue Velvet, Paris Texas, and Trees Lounge, to name a few) in a cosy candle-lit environment.

We also have our free open mic night THE ARTERY, on Thursday 1st, 15th and 29th – open to all-comers and audiences focussing mainly on acoustic music, but there are no rules! Compèred by Laurence Wood and talented songster Toby Nuttall. The Artery creates a warm and supportive atmosphere where performers young and old, new or experienced will be listened to and appreciated.
