Pianist Fergus McCreadie releases home-made CD to help take fans’ minds off Covid-19 crisis.

Pianist McCreadie releases home-made CD to help take fans’ minds off crisis

Award-winning Scottish pianist Fergus McCreadie’s trio release a live EP, Live at Black Mountain, on Friday, March 27.

The recording, taken from the group’s recent concert for Black Mountain Jazz in Abergavenny, is comprised of tracks from the trio’s Parliamentary Jazz Awards Album of the Year-winning debut album, “Turas”, along with group improvisations, and will be available for a limited period through Bandcamp.

“We didn’t intend to release any of the music from the recording,” says McCreadie. “But given the strange circumstances we all find ourselves in, it gives us a chance to keep in touch with our audience. David, Stephen and I are also really pleased with the concert and feel it’s one of the best we’ve played so far, so it makes sense to share it with the people who have supported us.”

All the CDs and sleeves will be specially made by McCreadie for each order. There are no plans to make the recording available digitally and the CDs will only be available for three months.

McCreadie, who has been playing livestreamed concerts with the trio, with singer Luca Manning and solo in the absence of live performances during the COVID-19 crisis, added: “We’d be privileged if people wanted to have an hour of us live in their homes. Hopefully it can bring some comfort and relaxation in this muddled and confusing time. If people can forget where they are for even just a minute and be tied to the moment, that is an incredibly affirming thing.”
