Alicia Gardener-Trejo Quartet

As part of a tour showcasing her debut album ‘Home/Lands’ Alicia Gardner-Trejo (baritone sax, flute, bass flute) brings her exciting quartet to SJN at the Hive. Featuring the individual voices of Andrew Woodhead (piano), Brodie Laird-Jarvie (double bass) and Jonathan Silk (drums) their music plays with the sonic possibilities of low woodwinds & double bass, with fresh ideas of melody & bassline responsibilities. With strong influences from the world of jazz and folk, ‘Home/Lands’ features intricately crafted melodies and strong improvisations.
‘A very engaging piece with attractive melodies and strong solos.’ Tony Dudley Evans

Mark Lockheart Shapeshifter Trio
Mar 14 £25/£12 U22
Shapeshifter is a new trio featuring three very special creative voices of the UK jazz scene: Mark Lockheart (saxes, bass clarinet & electronics), Huw V Williams (bass) &
Jay Davis (drums & percussion). The star- studded musical CV of these musicians is far too extensive to list here. Creating a unique sonic experience, the trio shifts moment to moment, gracefully and spontaneously stitching together sound landscapes and grooves. The three members share the writing credits alongside a few carefully chosen works by Bill Frisell, Joe Henderson and Paul Motian.
