The Green Note has forwarded its latest newsletter with details of forthcoming musical events.

Hello music lovers,

Hope you’re doing well and had a good Easter weekend!

We’ve got some fantastic shows coming up over the next couple of weeks, both at our home base in Camden, as well at other venues as part of our ‘Green Note hits the Road’ series…

UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS…

THE CIDERHOUSE REBELLION
We discovered this award-winning band when they played a matinée show for us last year and were really impressed, so we’ve booked them to return to our stage on Friday 12th April… THE CIDERHOUSE REBELLION sees virtuoso musicians Adam Summerhayes and Murray Grainger combining to produce incredible spontaneous tapestries of sound. Masters of improvisation, the pair specialise in creating music in the moment, based on traditional tunes or their own compositions – often springing from a single note, key, time signature or emotion. Described as ‘Compelling, exciting and utterly original’ by Phil Beer (Show of Hands), they play profound and eloquent, epic, haunting and dramatic music, and it’s this unusually improvisatory focus that is uniquely magical. Not to be missed!

Other upcoming highlights include…. Irish twins Ashley & Brandon Watson - THE OCELOTS, with their delicious harmonies and stunning storytelling, playing music inspired by the likes of Bob Dylan and Simon & Garfunkel’s folk sensibilities (Weds 3rd April), acclaimed live act THE HAWKMEN who draw from an array of influences such as rhythm’n’blues, soul, and rock’n’roll which they bring together in a classic, rootsy, hybrid blend (Thurs 4th April), and Norwich based genre blending folk band THE RABBITTS, with a unique sound with creative harmonies, fingerstyle guitar arrangements, dreamy mandolin lines, and an intricate yet impactful rhythm section (Sun 7th April).

WEEKEND MATINÉES
We also have a couple of special weekend matinées coming up this month that we’re particularly excited about! This Saturday, rising stars of the UK folk scene TOBIAS BEN JACOB & ISOBEL INKCAP join forces to present THE SONGS OF BOB DYLAN (Sat 6th April), and then later in the month we welcome back highly acclaimed Scottish singer-songwriter ADAM HOLMES returning with his 6th album, The Voice of Scotland (Sat 20th April), and talented local Roots troubadour SEAN TAYLOR and his trio - “Articulate, compelling … brilliant” Mojo (Sat 27th April).
While all our shows (on our home stage in Camden) are open to music lovers of all ages, our matinées are particularly accessible for younger fans and are a gorgeous way for anyone to spend an afternoon!

GREEN NOTE HITS THE ROAD

We are particularly excited about a gig we have coming up this month, as we are huge fans of this artist, and she is one of the most energetic and compelling live performers you will see! On Thurs 11th April, we’re very pleased to be hosting a show with award-winning Irish singer-songwriter WALLIS BIRD at the Lexington in Islington. Wallis has been enrapturing audiences for over a decade, playing over 1000 shows in that time worldwide. Her irrepressible energy on stage is one of her trademarks; even the Irish Times once noted it could ‘kickstart an entire economy’.

We’re also looking forward to SUPALUNG - the new project from stunning singer-songwriter SAM BROOKES alongside multi-instrumentalist, producer PETE JOSEF, who play music they describe as joyous, melodic and experimental (Weds 10th April @ The Lexington). In their own words: “We wanted to draw from all of the great music across time that we love and put it into this album. The keystone was Joy – if it didn’t make you smile, send shivers of excitement or fill your eyes with joyous tears then we double-backed and started again.”

And award-winning Anglo/Irish singer, songwriter and guitar player KATIE JAMES who grew up in a small alternative community in the Andean Mountains, listening to a variety of Irish and European folk music but also to the traditional rhythms and melodies of her Colombian neighbours. This has strongly influenced her compositions where she naturally combines these elements into fresh sounding and deeply felt songs. You can catch her on Sunday 7th April at the Water Rats, in Kings Cross.

All this and many more great shows to come, so please do check out our events page for more details and the full line up…

Hope to see you soon!
Lots of love,
Immy & Risa xx
