The Vortex have announced a series of online performances to be screened during the month of May 2021. Details attached.

While we are (impatiently) waiting to welcome audiences back to the club and preparing our reopening programme, we are excited to announce an amazing series of online performances over the next few weeks.
Coming-up in May: Sultan Stevenson Trio (05/05), Jas Kayser Trio (11/05), Solstice (13/05) - a sextet composed of Vortex familiar faces - and Helena Kay Quartet (19/05). Limited-time early bird tickets are available for all these performances so make sure to book yours in advance!
SULTAN STEVENSON - MAY, 5th 8PM BST
Line-up: Sultan Stevenson (piano), Jacob Gryn (double bass) & Joel Waters (drums)
Aged only 20, Sultan Stevenson is a promising young artist and a student of the Tomorrow’s Warriors programme. His art combines elements of the Black African American Jazz tradition as well as his own Black Caribbean cultural experience. His debut single ‘To Be Seen’ was released in the summer of 2020 and was well received among his generation in the jazz community.
JAS KAYSER- MAY, 11th 8PM BST
Line-up: Jas Kayser (drums), Joe Webb (piano) & Will Sach (double bass)
Jas Kayser is a 25-year-old drummer, Paiste Cymbals and Natal Drums artist based in London. She is currently drummer for Jorja Smith and Alfa Mist and has featured in bands with leading British lights Nubya Garcia, Poppy Ajudha and Ashley Henry as well as American drummer Ralph Peterson’s Big Band. Her most recent release is her sultry new Debut EP Unforced Rhythm of Grace, available now on all platforms. It has been supported by Jamie Cullum, BBC 3, Jazz FM and Jazzwise.
SOLSTICE - MAY 13th 8PM BST
Line-up: Tori Freestone (saxophones, flute), Brigitte Beraha (vocals), Jez Franks (guitar), John Turville (piano, keyboards), Dave Manington (double bass), Will Glaser (drums)
This special lockdown collaboration performance by Solstice, featuring animation by Grant Gilchrist, will celebrate the release of the band’s new album – “Food for Thought”. Please not that this pre-recorded performance was not filmed at the Vortex.
HELENA KAY - MAY 19 8PM BST
Line-up: Helena Kay (tenor sax), Nick Costley-White (guitar), Calum Gourlay (double bass), David Ingamells (drums)
Tenor saxophonist Helena Kay (Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year 2015, Peter Whittingham Jazz Award 2017) leads a quartet comprising some of the most in demand musicians on the London jazz scene.
