The team behind Birmingham’s Upstairs at Cherry Red’s jazz night have published their autumn programme through to the end of the year. For the most part they are returning to fortnightly gigs on Wednesdays, with a few extras added in for good measure.

Their season opener next week (Wednesday 23rd) is saxophonist and BBC Young Jazz Musician of the year 2024 finalist George Johnson (of the Geordie jazz rising star band Knats) with his quartet. Jim Bashford brings his Monk’s Dream Team the following week (30th). October features the Ben Shankland Trio (14th) and trombonist Dave Sear (28th), who has appeared at The Marr’s Bar with The Boom Yeh in 2025 and Detroitwich Funk Machine earlier this year. November squeezes three gigs in, starting with Ribbons, a collaboration between pianist Rebecca Nash and singer Sara Coleman on 11th, James Owston / Roger Manins Quartet (18th) and Manz / Saunders / Lisle / Vadiveloo (25th). The programme ends with a Jam session hosted by Oliver Nunn on Wednesday 9th December.
