Starace has spoken of the “magic moments” that the trio have experienced musically during their three years together as a band. There are certainly plenty of those in evidence here.
It’s rare to hear trad jazz played as brilliantly as this and I genuinely enjoyed listening to this album.
An impressive second outing from Five Way Split. Although very much rooted in the hard bop tradition the original writing is intelligent and also surprisingly subtle in terms of colour and texture.
Maestro’s sense of adventure and his willingness to embrace a variety of musical styles is something to be celebrated. Overall “The Guesthouse” represents a brave and distinctive artistic statement.
A quite glorious racket, a thrillingly visceral musical ride. Taupe marshal their uncompromising music with skill, conviction & imagination & the playing is crisp, crunching & razor sharp throughout.
